Dorothy Stallings is a woman who wouldn't settle for less when it came to love. After nearly seven decades of looking for Mr. Right, the 84-year-old Texan finally walked down the aisle on Saturday with her high school sweetheart, Carl King. "No one ever measured up to him," Stallings told the Waco Tribune-Herald. "I knew how much he cared for me."
Their story sounds like something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel. During their budding romance back in the 1940s, King was deployed to the Pacific during World War II, and the two kept their love alive through letters. After his return to Texas in 1946, they dated for two more years, then broke up.
Stallings stayed in Waco, while Kings moved to the Gulf Coast, worked at a chemical company, got married and had four daughters. However, when his wife passed away in 2007, the still-single Stallings was ready to finally stand by her man.
The couple dated for two years, then King proposed in May, and, this past weekend, they finally tied the knot in a ceremony that took less than 30 minutes. After all, if Mr. Right arrives when you're well into your 80s, there's no time to waste.
But she sure makes it look like waiting for him can be worth it.

I think this is so sweet. I still care very much for my high school sweetheart. We did marry but he didn't really want to grow up and become a family. He liked to do things with friends and leave us at home. So after 12 years I got out. He is happy now and I am glad. Just want the best for him. It seems like you never get over your first real love.

How I wish something like this would happen to me. There's someone in my past that I just never got over. Unfortunately, we both separated and are with other people. Every so often I get a phone call from him, and the conversation with always ends with him saying, "I still love you." God bless them both, may their marriage and remaining years be full of love and eternal bliss.

Your story is almost the same as mine. I met him 21 yrs ago. and have never gotten over him. If I'm ever free and not in a nurshing home I will run to him and hug and kiss him, and let him know how much I've loved him and waited to be with him.

I'm waiting for my early love's husband to die, but he's healthy as a bull. No, assassination is not an option -- Better to wait and hope I don't go first. We both have three grown offspring.

Man, I wish I could meet up with my 9th grade sweetheart. 40 years back she and her family moved to Florida. We kept in touch through the mail for a while but that ultimately fizzled out. That feeling; that first love of your life; it only happens once.
