Last week, Lemondrop's anonymous dude writer, [Redacted] Guy, wrote about terrycloth, rompers and the fashion trends that have men scratching their heads. We decided to turn the tables on the dudes by compiling a list of all the summer outfits we can't stand on them. Reader Lvdwillia got us started with her top five male fashion faux pas after the jump. Got any to add? Leave 'em in the comments!
1. White [ribbed] tank tops ...unless you have a body like Tyson Beckford, it just does not work.
2. Sandals with socks Yuck.
3. Shorts that fall above the kneeOnly a grandpa can get away with that.
4. Khaki carpenter pants and cargos.Nobody needs that many pockets.
5. Omnipresent baseball caps. After a man turns 25, unless he's outside or playing for the Yankees, he just looks juvenile.
And more from some of our readers...
"Work boots with shorts. Work boots are meant to be worn for protection ... protection you obviously don't need if you're wearing shorts." -- Katie
"Jhorts!" -- Kelsea
"My least favorite has to be t-shirts with the arms ripped/cut off." -- Belise
"I detest when mean not only cut the sleeves off their shirts, but rip the arm hole all the way down their so there's only like an inch of fabric keeping it together. This just makes you look like a tool." -- Rara
"Flip-flops! It just doesn't look right when a man is wearing thonged flip-flops. Gross." -- Nyzshelli
"Long messy hair isn't attractive. Almost all guys (as much as they try to say otherwise) will look really good with buzzed hair. The ones who haven't had haircuts in forever are just trying to hide behind it." -- Katies104
"I can't stand it when I see guys wear "shorts" down to their ankles. But that's just the idiots who are still wearing baggy clothes." -- Eliana

Normaly I don't read stuff like this....no interest at all realy, but still it is a good idea to see what women think on such things from time to time.
But apon reading of this "fashion faux pas" I have only this to say....obviously you've never worked in construction.
I do agree on wearing work boots with shorts off-site.....pointless....but when you're out in the hot sun sweating like a snitch on the witness stand, you're more concerned with staying as cool as you can....practicality over-rules "fashion".
Not to mention, on the job you are more likely to have something dropped on your foot that you are having something slam into your shins.....TRUST ME....I know from experience.
And besides.....even a pair of high-top basket ball shoes provide more protection to your feet than a pair of jeans do for your legs.....again....this I know from experience.
Having an 8 foot long 2x4 inch dropped on your foot hurts worse than someone accidently knocking you in the shin with a hammer, and it's easier to "walk off" a knock to the shin compaired to a broken toe.....that's why construction workers wear steel-toed "work boots".
So please ladies, remember....if you see a man wearing work boots and shorts between 6am and 6pm......that means he's working.
And besides.....most guys DO change into different clothes.....AND shoes following the after work shower.
You would too if you wore the same sweaty old boots for 8-to-10 hours a day.
I do agree with you on this though, the guys who DO wear this fashion combination on their own time are only making themselves look fooloish.
Just don't make fun of me if I put practicality over fashion when I'm at work.

People really, you can go hang yourself your fashion sense is that of a retard. Some men do not care what the hell you think. I will keep wearing my work boots with shorts when it so hot you could cook an egg on the pavement. Also having cut off sleeves if fine when your working its hot if half of you idiots worked hard in the sun you would want cutoff sleeves too. DUMMIES

Well Katie - I "work" for a living and wear work boots and shorts- it's the summer and walking around while doing a project - hmm- yes I do like my feet protected from rubble, sharp objects etc and also my work books are fully supportive and comfortable when I'm on my feet for 8 hrs straight - the shorts- hmm- it's summer and sometimes it's you know- like - 90 degrees out there- yea no air conditioning when you work outside - so duh - hmm maybe I wear shorts and to top it off I even like sleeveless shirts- wow - imagine that trying to be a lil bit more comfy while bustin your hump in 90 degree heat - maybe I should go out and buy some dockers for the job site and some nice Italian leather shoes and a nice button dress shirt - yea that sounds comfy on the job site- lmao

Hey Joe - you aren't a real construction worker if you're working in shorts, because OSHA doesn't allow shorts and if OSHA isn't inspecting the jobs you work on, you're just another $10 an hour laborer. Any construction site observing the rules and regulations set forth by OSHA is not going to permit anyone to wear shorts. Joe - you're nothing but an amateur.

Might we expand a bit on the ever-present baseball cap thing?
In my august (and always correct) opinion (get over it, I'm joking)....
A cap of ANY kind worn sideways or backwards, over the age of twelve just signals, "Slap me....twice....hard!"
And don't get me started on all these guys wearing straight, flat brims, instead of bending them a bit...they all look like they're wearing sauce pans on their heads.
Thank you. I feel ever so much better now, for adding my little tempest to this teapot.

hey katie if you ever worked a day in your life as hard as I do in the sweltering heat of July you'd wear shorts with your work boots too and oh work boots are for work and are not protective unless they have steel or composite tipped toes and shanks.

Omg you people are so dumb! The first comment is talking about wearing them out in public, as in NOT at work! And all you guys can say you don't care allll you want but, the truth is we know you do. Guys always want to look good for girls to attract us to them so you can all say that as much as you want but, we know you're bluffing!
Another bad one is black (or white) socks that are above the tennis shoe line!! ughh kills me! And t-shirts that make guys look like they shop at babygap.

OK GUYS YOU ARE MISSING KATIE'S POINT... SHE IS NOT TALKING ABOUT WORK BOOTS AND SHORT WHEN YOU ARE WORKING. SHE IS TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU AREN'T WORKING AND OUT ON "ERRANDS". IT LOOKS RETARDED TO SEE THE BRAHMA BOOTS AND JEAN SHORTS AND THE FUBU OR SPORT JERSEY SHIRTS!
GET YOUR FASHION TOGETHER BOYS!!!!!!!!!

Katie.
If you are working in 100 degree heat you need shorts to be able to move around. Pants stick to your legs and make it harder for getting up and down ladders. And boots keep the nails from puncturing your foot. I am proud of all the rants on here. I hope you get the point.

Not all work is dangerous. Work boots are for support. Try walking on cement all day or up 40 flights b/c no elevator has been installed yet. A working man with a boot tan & sunbleached hairy legs...yum.

Most of you are taking ym comment the wrong way- I did NOT mean people who are wearing shorts and workboots WHILE they are at work. Thats understandable in many practical situations.
I'm talking about going out in genreal public and seeing guys who apparently think it makes them look macho. It just doesn't. It looks silly.

In defense of guys wearing work boots with shorts. Construction workers do that in the summer because it's hot and they HAVE to wear the work boots (That's why they call them "work boots") to protect their feet. It makes a lot of sense to me, I don't think it's supposed to be a fashion statement.

Work with shorts is OK as long as you are working or at Home Depot picking something up for working. When it is 95 degrees outside, you can't wear pants and work. Just coming from a trade worker who wears shorts with work boots.

What are jhorts? Please tell me? I could be wearing them and not even know it, much less they're driving women away!

I'm not a youngin' anymore, what the heck is JHORTS?! Now, seeing a man in shorts and steeltoed boots, hmmmm, that means that he is a GOOD guy to catch, or try to catch. He isn't afraid of HARD WORK like the teenie boopers of today!

They're called shants. I wear them occasionally because it is so hot where I live and they are easy to get on and off after surfing. The majority of these are really stupid. I live in Cali, if you came here thinking that flip flops on guys was gross then you would be grossed out about 100% of the time. We even wear them to school. If its comfortable, I wear it. I don't even care to know if its "fashionable."
