Last week, Lemondrop's anonymous dude writer, [Redacted] Guy, wrote about terrycloth, rompers and the fashion trends that have men scratching their heads. We decided to turn the tables on the dudes by compiling a list of all the summer outfits we can't stand on them. Reader Lvdwillia got us started with her top five male fashion faux pas after the jump. Got any to add? Leave 'em in the comments!
1. White [ribbed] tank tops ...unless you have a body like Tyson Beckford, it just does not work.
2. Sandals with socks Yuck.
3. Shorts that fall above the kneeOnly a grandpa can get away with that.
4. Khaki carpenter pants and cargos.Nobody needs that many pockets.
5. Omnipresent baseball caps. After a man turns 25, unless he's outside or playing for the Yankees, he just looks juvenile.
And more from some of our readers...
"Work boots with shorts. Work boots are meant to be worn for protection ... protection you obviously don't need if you're wearing shorts." -- Katie
"Jhorts!" -- Kelsea
"My least favorite has to be t-shirts with the arms ripped/cut off." -- Belise
"I detest when mean not only cut the sleeves off their shirts, but rip the arm hole all the way down their so there's only like an inch of fabric keeping it together. This just makes you look like a tool." -- Rara
"Flip-flops! It just doesn't look right when a man is wearing thonged flip-flops. Gross." -- Nyzshelli
"Long messy hair isn't attractive. Almost all guys (as much as they try to say otherwise) will look really good with buzzed hair. The ones who haven't had haircuts in forever are just trying to hide behind it." -- Katies104
"I can't stand it when I see guys wear "shorts" down to their ankles. But that's just the idiots who are still wearing baggy clothes." -- Eliana

Not to mention it just looks really silly.

I'm guilty of so many of these. Not jean shorts or socks with sandals, but many. I'll be at home wearing just shorts and a old shirt, then decide to go real quick to the grocery store or something. Ball hat on backwards.
I usually dress nice, but home attire is not, so I guess I shouldn't leave home without changing. Sorry.

KATIE YA NEED TO GET OUTSIDE MORE. RIGHT NOW ITS 95 DEGREES AND THERE ARE 10 GUYS ON MY FRAMING CREW....WE BUILD HOUSES. STEEL TOED WORK BOOTS ARE A MUST. SHORTS ARE THE ORDER OF THE DAY. SHIRTS ARE OPTIONAL. IN ADDITION, EVER WATCHED A GOOD LANDSCAPING CREW IN THE SUMMER?

I'm in landscape construction. I need steal toed boots. I also like to wear shorts when ever it's above 85. Try running sprints up a hill with a 500 pound wheel barrow of stone for 4 hours in 95 degree humid weather while wearing pants. Now do I look silly or do you?

Apparently you have never done any construction work in the heat...

I agree it has no place in fashion, But some jobs require boots(OSHA) but allow shorts, and when I'm working on a humid 90 deg day I'll wear the shorts to stay cool. Then again I don't care if people don't like how I look.

Probably does look silly to someone who doesn't have to work for a living. But for men who have to work, wear protective foot wear but still need to remain cool (temperature wise) it's just fine. Probably falls into the same category as muffin top jeans with girls over 14 years old, it works for them and thats all that matters.

Obviously you have guys confused with girls. Most guys dress for comfort and practicality and not for fashion. There are exceptions, but this is the general rule. If you don't like what I wear, don't look at it. I still try to be neat and clean but honestly, if it is "in" or "out", I could care less.

I think you are not really looking at the man in those shorts and boots . Don't look just at the outfit, look at the whole man and Honey ,some men are absolutely sexy in shorts and boots..Very Macho.

If you are working in Florida where it is hot and warm just about 11 months out of the year, work boots and shorts are fine when you are working outside all the time.

Ooh, Katie, I've always thought that was a really sexy look! My husband worked in a warehouse that was hot all the time, so he had to wear a hardhat and steel toed boots but always with shorts....yummy!

Then skirts are to be worn in the summer, not that you're trying to catch a breeze or something during the winter. Also, fill abby (from NCIS) in on that one

Guess you have never visited Florida. Shorts are worn to work as standard for all but most Latinos doing yard work, pool work, roofing, and on and on.

Katie, I just want to point out that while you and most of the other women here seem to think that your opinions matter to us guys, you're only fooling yourselves. There is one and only one reason why any man would play dress up for a woman. That reason is to get laid. Men who play dress up are either gay or looking to get laid. Period. That at least, is off my chest...
As for some of these "pointers for men", yes, some of these are stupid for men to do. The whole socks in sandals thing looks stupid, and "Mike" said it best when he described his workday if he had to wear pants. The many has to wear the work boots, but his shorts are his preference for his comfort. As for cargo shorts or pants, I don't see what the big deal is there either. They are comfortable, and as such deserve to be worn, if we men like that style. You woman can dress however you please, but the bottom line is that you women dress to catch the eye of men. Don't deny it either, sister. You and all women reading this know I am right.
The bottom line to all of this is that we are all individuals. We all dress in whatever it it that makes us comfortable. Life isn't a fashion show. Personally, I piss on fashion. It's too much about someone telling me what I can and can't do or wear. No way... No How....

it looks silly to a women, because men do it out of nessesity during hard work, not to make some stupid fashion statement like most women do

Huh??? What do shorts have to do with your toes??? So a landscaper can't wear shorts and a pair of boots? So if he drops a tree on his toes a pair of jeans will save his feet??? How ridiculous. Although I agree that boots and shorts look stupid together. Your statement makes no sense at all...
