Cheerleading is usually for perky young girls with ponytails, but don't tell that to Fumie Takino. She's the 78-year-old leader of Japan Pom Pom, Japan's elderly cheerleading squad. Takino started the squad, whose average age is a spritely 66, around 15 years ago. Members perform dressed in sparkly, sequined outfits, short skirts and silver wigs to spread an inspiring message. "It's not too late to start anything," she says. "You can do anything at any age." Takino's personal philosophy? "You can't avoid getting old ... so why not just have fun?" (Reuters)
