Barbie's been back in the headlines these days -- but not for out-of-whack proportions. This time it's for being a geek. Or, really, for the swarm of female computer engineers who turned her into one.
The WSJ covered the results of Mattel's "I Can Be" campaign to select a new career for good old Barbie. Voting options included architect, anchorwoman, computer engineer, environmentalist and surgeon. While anchorwoman took an early lead (it was popular with young girls), a viral initiative by female computer engineers flooded the voting. (Kind of hilarious, no?) Consequently, Mattel decided to hold both a popular vote (computer nerd, complete with Bluetooth headset, glasses, binary-code tee, and laptop) and a girls' vote (anchorwoman).
Unfortunately, someone else thinks Barbie has a higher calling. The Washington Post reported that an Episcopal priest from Ohio fashioned a "Reverend Barbie" -- complete with traditional vestments -- for the girls at her ministry.
In one sense, we think Barbie is lucky. Who else gets to reinvent herself every six months or so, and score a career-specific wardrobe to match?
Question: If you had it to do over again, what career would you choose?

With an extraordinarily diverse and, often, unexpected turn within my "Summary of Experience", the career I have is exactly who I am and what I need/want to be - for which I am thankful - every day.

I'm a software engineer (guess which barbie I voted for). It was either that or actress and I kinda suck at acting. I really love my job, so I'm glad I went with what I'm good at.
