alexandluke.comTwo weeks ago, we introduced you to Alex from Alex and Luke. The 26-year-old just started on an eight-month, social-media-powered road trip with her best friend (Luke) and she's going to be checking in with Lemondrop every two weeks or so for the duration of her trip. Alex knows that her trip is the chance of a lifetime and that it's something lots of us would like to do -- so leave any questions in the comments, and she'll do her best to answer them in her next update. After the jump, check out her first video update exclusively for Lemondrop.

Almost everything Luke and I have done so far, and certainly everywhere we have traveled, has been determined by our followers. Two days ago we put our next destination to a vote on our Web site and you guys sent us east to Montreal! The next vote will either send us further east or south to the U.S.

Thank you for all of your great tips and ideas, we have taken all of your comments to heart and look forward to seeing and doing a lot of the things you suggested. Even though we have only been to Ontario and Quebec (which are quite familiar to us) it's been amazing having the guidance of strangers to help us explore. But when we go south of the border (to unfamiliar territory) we will need your help navigating even more. So keep sending us your suggestions, especially when it looks like we're getting close to where you are.

For both Luke and me, this journey is about exploring the power of social media to build unexpected relationships, learn as much as we can about North America (from other North Americans), and share everything we discover as we go. From the very beginning it was so important to us that we extend our goal from simply using social media as a tool for traveling, to exploring the its potential to raise awareness for important causes.

Right now as we stay in Canada, the charity we are working with is Friends for Life Foundation, but if we get voted south, 25 percent of our pledges will go to Charity: Water, and once we move west, the cause changes to the American Diabetes Association. We are so pleased to be able to raise some money for these important causes (all of which are very dear to us), but we would also like to learn more about how we can donate our time. If you know of any ways that Luke and I can help out in the various cities and towns we stop in, please let us know. We have some of our own ideas, but we would love to hear from you.

You can follow along with us and learn more about our project at Alex and Luke, as well as on Twitter (@alexandluke) and our Facebook page.
