Good news if you're tired of the way your phrenology charts are taking up all the space in your closet: Scientists have developed nose-scanning software that's being used to assess personalities. This is not a joke.By scanning four different pictures of a person, the program, called PhotoFace, can analyze and measure a nose using shadows. The idea is that it's significantly more complicated (and costly) to change a nose than to put in colored contacts or get a haircut, so nose-scanning could be used to identify terrorists, identity thieves and the like more thoroughly. For the rest of us non-criminals, there's an added bonus -- snap judgments of people's personalities based on the general shape of their nose. There's the Greek, the Turned-Up, and the, um, Nubian. Uncomfortable!
To see what your nose says about you, look here. And here are instructions for reading tea leaves. And here's an iridology chart. Have fun wasting your time!
