Turns out men at ESPN can't tell their female colleagues What Not to Wear on-air.Hannah Storm, left, co-host of "SportsCenter" has been known for sporting some pretty un-newscasterly outfits, but it was these boots -- red, knee-high, kitten-heeled -- that sent her colleague Tony Kornheiser, co-host of ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," walking after he took aim at her outfit on his Feb. 16 radio show:
"I'd like to point out Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today," he said. "She's got on red go-go boots and a Catholic school plaid skirt way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now."
He then compared Storm to a "sausage casing," before recanting: "I mean, I know she's very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people ... but Hannah Storm today, come on, now! Stop! What are you doing? It's what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at that point."
The facts: Hannah Storm is 47. Kornheiser, despite lobbing an apology soon after his out-of-line comments ("I'm a troll, look at me. I have no right to insult what anybody looks like or what anybody wears!"), was suspended by the network today.
And while we consider his "time out" one small slap for a man who stuck his fashion opinions in where they don't belong, and one giant boot stride forward for womankind, not everyone is inclined to agree with us.
"A big part of Kornheiser's shtick is making jokes about media personalities (including himself)," wrote our friends at Fanhouse today, "and if Kornheiser isn't allowed to have fun at the expense of ESPN colleagues from time to time, both his radio show and 'Pardon the Interruption' are going to be a lot less entertaining. From that perspective, the suspension is probably a little harsh."
In truth, the rant raises many an issue -- and not just how long Kornheiser should be forced to cool his heels.
Is Storm too old to wear what we would argue are regrettable get-ups on anyone? Is any woman for that matter? And what sort of message does Kornheiser's "shtick" send to Storm's three daughters -- and the millions of women out there for whom she's one of the lone female sportscasters they see on ESPN?
Because, for us, that's the crux of the issue: While we, too, would prefer to see those tacky red boots burned, the thought of a male colleague policing a 47-year-old woman's wardrobe -- especially a woman who has broken numerous barriers in sports journalism -- is enough to make us swallow our pride and stride around in icky hooker boots in support of her.
Then again, maybe the boots themselves are to blame. After all, the last time a pair of tall boots sent this many tongues wagging was 2005, when then–Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sported black knee-high heeled boots to Wiesbaden Army Airfield in Germany, birthing a million fashion critics concerned about her "sexy" footwear.
What do you think: Is Hannah's on-air wear too out-there? And was Kornheiser's rant flat-out sexist -- or purely provocative?

I seriously thought her outfit was going to be a lot more provocative; it's not. It's an outfit, that's all. If any person is being sexualized based their clothing at this level, then we are all in trouble.
Look at around, there are a lot of women who dress a lot more sexual than this!
I don't watch sports; but I think the guy who said the negative comments about his co-worker is way out of line!
To boot (no pun intended), she is in great shape and pulls this out fit off flawlessly!
Also, lets keep in mind that our opinions are just that; subjective. There is no right or wrong here in the way she is dressed, however, the guy making the negative comments openly about a co-worker messed up big time!

I think if there is a dress code it should be in writing. Every job has its rules, and television being a visible entity needs more rules than most. She's not supposed to be a cartoon character, she's there to report the news. Frankly, she should want to be viewed more seriously, since she has had to fight to get where she is and should not throw away what respect she finally has from the sports world. I have every right to show up for work like that too, but luckily have more taste and sense.

Subjective, subjective, subjective. My opinion and your opinion doesn't matter. I'm sure we could all judge others for many reasons!
For example, ignorance is my biggest pet peeve and in my opinion, there is a ton of ignorance on this board complaining about this woman's clothes!
If this is all we have to do, complain about a beautiful woman looking good on television, then wow...kind of sad!
Hannah...you look fantastic, do not listen to the ignorant and the haters, personally I believe it is jealousy or lust that drives the hateful comments!
People are weak. Most people wouldn't go to work "looking like this" because they couldn't "look like this" in the outfit. She is petite and pretty.

I'm all for women's right and think that if a woman wants to be a sportscaster - go for it sister! But please...be the female sportscaster that gains attention because you are good - not because you are dressed sleazy, or like a 25 year old, or trying to look hot to gain viewers...it's a contradiction of why you are in the role you are in the first place.
It's degratory and honestly, it contradicts what I try to teach my kids...that women are just as intelligent and knowledgeable as men in whatever profession they choose.
You show the girls and young women of today that if they show some skin they'll be popular. Great. Thanks.

Wow Darla, actually I'm a hot red head who is not intimidated by beautiful women. My bet, Darla, is that it is you that is the sad shut in of a human. Good luck in life love.
To be straight forward, I'm a 38DD, 28 inch waist and I have very long natural red hair. I've been sought after my whole life; regarded as beautiful woman and am quite successful in business as well.
Hence, not offended by other beautiful successful women, unlike yourself apparently, but that's okay, we all have our weaknesses

Oh and yes Darla, you (and a lot of ignorant people) touched a nerve, I cannot stand ignorant people; a HUGE pet peeve of mine! Judging someone based on clothing that is NOT offensive is so simple minded...but apparently people need to complain and I suppose this subject is as good as any.

Angela,
Even beautiful women should be intelligent about how they represent themselves. Just because a woman is regarded as attractive, does not mean she should be, dress or act provocatively in less than appropriate situations. Save it for the club, your date, wherever you go to flaunt your ego. Not at work, and especially if you work in a public arena such as TV where you possibly influence others.
I am considered attractive, but I don't wear low cut tops, short skirts and ho boots to work. Maybe if I'm a hooker, that's appropriate...but I work in an office, and I'm a professional...therefore I dress appropriately professional there - it's really not hard to make that connection. And you know what - apparently, I'm considered attractive there, too. However, when I'm at work - I'm there to work, to do a job, not pick up guys, get noticed or try to get ahead with anything but my intelligence. The best part...I'm successful.

Angela - to quote Shakespeare, ....thou doth protest too much. Did I just count NINE entries just to this blog? What the heck do you do for a living?
Your claim : "To be straight forward, I'm a 38DD, 28 inch waist and I have very long natural red hair" perfectly describes an Orangutan! Hahahahahah. Ah come on, you humorless egomaniac. That was funny.
Sorry it took so long to respond, I've been out closing a major deal. Made my year. Hooray.
