If you thought memorizing the Schoolhouse Rock lyrics to "I'm Just a Bill" was impressive, it's time to hang your head in shame -- Emma Breyer, 17, is trying to become the Republican representative for her precinct in Ohio.

The Union Township, Ohio, high school junior decided to fulfill an A.P. Government class requirement (for which students usually work on a political campaign) by actually running for office. Emma turns 18 in October, before the November election, and it was unclear whether she was old enough to run for precinct representative of the Clermont County Republican Party. After she filed her candidacy, she received an email from the Ohio secretary of state informing her that since she'll still be 17 for the primary, she's too young to run.

We think they should cut her a break -- Emma would have broken a record as the youngest person ever to run for the office, and the incumbent is not seeking reelection. How many kids are this civically engaged? She told the Cincinnati Enquirer, "If I can help this county run well, maybe that will transfer over to the entire country." We say just wait a year, kiddo, and then go fulfill those crazy elephantine dreams.
