If you've ever seen the Discovery Channel's hit TV show "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant," you know just how insane some of these true stories are. Like, really? A) How could you not know you're pregnant? and B) This has happened to enough women to populate an entire series? In any case, what's even more ridiculous are the overly dramatic re-enactments by actresses pretending to be ladies who finally realized they were with child and going straight into labor. (Got that?)
A recent Videogum post detailing an "IDKIWP" casting call reveals just a sliver of what these actresses have to go through during the audition process.
But who says there are no parts for minorities in Hollywood? If you're a 30-something Native American woman who wants to pretend to find her placenta on the bathroom floor, there sure are. Oh, but you must have a newborn baby who looks Native American, is under 10 lbs., and is at least 15 days old. Uh, good luck finding that, Discovery Channel.
Check out how the whole disturbing show comes together in this clip. Enjoy!

I watched this show just once...and that enough!
The title alone is dumb.
How can (especailly this many) women not know they're
pregnant at some point. Are they really not feeling that kick and jab at 8 or 9 months?? Too stupid for words.
Even the fat assed ones should be able to feel SOMETHING.
Just another stupid show that some doofus's will follow.

As a family doctor who has delivered over 600 babies, what disturbs me most is all the screaming. Late in labor, most women have an urge to push and to hold their breath while pushing. Some need a couple of practice pushes to be able to do that without wasting their breath on noise. I delivered a few that were hiding their pregnancies and claimed that they didn't know they were pregnant, and a couple that were obese and did not realize they were pregnant. Thank goodness, they rarely screamed like the actresses in the series do. I think this series scares young women and makes them fear childbirth.

Please see my post reply to another commentor... My grandmother had a baby, my uncle, monthly periods, no weight gain, no usual suspects of pregnancy, never obese... So, you CAN be pregnant and not know it...

What's really sad is that "The Discovery Channel" has sunk to this new low. They used to be a quality station, but now there are several other "Discovery" channels on cable as well, so I guess they feel they have to dabble in this reality crap to stay competitive. TLC has also changed and turned to shite.

golfinkatiekat, are you fat? lol. some of the women also have issues with iron and prolly eaitng disorders with issues gaining weight and what not so it isnt only the fat ones. just a majority. obese is a certain bmi. and you need to stop being like that. it is so unhealthy for the babies in the first place to have a fat mom. my ister in law is lik350 lbs and 5'5" and her baby was premmie and really sick still. ppl need to start getting in shape then maybe theyll know they are preggo and wont harm a child by accident.

You are ignorant first of all. You need to get over yourself. There are many reasons a pregnancy could go wrong, other than weight. You need realize that and figure out the different factors before you say what's in that small brain of yours. My mother has been overweight since I could remember and had 2 children, which were perfectly healthy!

I have worked as an OB nurse for over 20 yrs. I have quite a number of women deliver babies that did not realize that they were pregnant. Some very thin, some very big. Some wanted the babies some were it complete denial. We even had one of our OB doctors who with EACH of her 5 pregnancies NEVER felt her babies move. Not everyone feels the same!!

Look, this actually happens--whether you believe it or not. And there are a large variety of reasons why a woman wouldn't know she's pregnant. When it happened to me, I a) had been irregular on my cycle (too frequent [every two weeks] followed by skipping a month to six weeks) for about two years (having just given birth to one child, breastfeeding, and starting birth control pills), b) a little on the large size (not enough to be considered obese, but enough to be concerned according to my doctor), and c) had a history of placentas attaching on the outside wall of my uterus (which, btw, can stop you from even feeling strong kicks and screws up ultrasound pictures). But I did suspect with my youngest and had a pregnancy test done three months before her birth. It came back negative. My GYN felt there was no need to look into the matter further, but to schedule another appointment in about six months if my cycles still hadn't stabilized. It was a real shock at the time, but I have since found out that I am not alone. That both instances happen remarkably often. I do not think that assuming the women it happens to are ignorant or in denial is appropriate behavior for supposed adults.

I find it both interesting and sad that some women are so out of tune with their bodies that they end up equating having a baby with taking a particularly large dump.

Being pregnant and not knowing it could happen for many different reasons. I don't think that anyone should discriminate against anyone's weight because you never know what may happen to you in the long run. Not eveyone that is obese can help it! Some peopel have medical conditions that make them that way. Stop being ignorant (lacking in knowldege or training) for those who don't use the word properly! Plus, people don't want their race being talked about, so what makes anyone's weight any different. Crazy things happen all over the world...stop being stupid and get over the fact that this happens to some people...who cares! It has nothing to do with you! Everyone has an opinion, just like everyone has an asshole! So how about stop thinking your all right and just say what you need to say...don't discriminate! Also, a lot of ugly people think that just because they are thin they're better but guess what, they can lose weight and you can NEVER change ugly! My mother is overweight and she doesn't care what any of you said. She had 2 children, knew she was pregnant, and we were fine! So thank you and goodbye!

Honestly not all woman who are obese dont know my Cousin i swear is one of the skinniest people ive ever met (exaggerating of course) but one day she went into the hospital complaining of a resent bout of constipation and cramps thinking she was going to go in and get something to help release she came home with a 5 pound baby girl. Most women carry to the front sure you get the belly and what not but honestly she only looked like PMS bloating come to find out her baby was just very inactive with an Anterior placenta , mind you she has 2 lil boys by this time and only maybe gained 8 pounds total she worked out and never had a symptom im 5 months now ... Im actually a lil jealous :P
