We feel it's always handy to have a long, varied list of reasons why you don't want to get laid, so we were excited to find a new one that's backed by scientific research. Now you can blame your frigidity on a crippling fear of carpal tunnel syndrome.According to research published in Medical Hypotheses journal, the extra weight put on your wrists during sexual intercourse is probably a major contributing factor to carpal tunnel syndrome. And the data that helps prove this shows an increase in carpal tunnel syndrome with the introduction of medications like Viagra and the ever-worsening obesity epidemic.
The fact that fornicating is "the most widely practiced activity that uses both hands at the same time" only strengthens the hypothesis, in addition to an increase in carpal tunnel since the advent of Viagra and obesity. Gross!
So you see people, the threat is real! The next time your significant other starts looking at you all doe-eyed, simply collect yourself and say, "I'm sorry dear, but I'm afraid I'll never be able to play Berg's Piano Sonata Opus 1 if were were to bang right now," and ta-da! you're now free to watch six hours of "House" reruns.

I believe that this hypothesis is not true in many cases. Sex will not be the reason for this syndrome. I'm in the U. S. Army and have spent more time in the front leaning rest on my hands and putting this pressure on my wrist and do not have carpal tunnel syndrome. Now, sex being a reason for carpal tunnel may be true for some of those who are obese or who need a pill because they can't get it up. But, even though the carpal tunnel is coming from having the sex and the body weight is on the wrists, it still could have been prevented. These overweight folks who are having sex need to get up off their lazy behinds and exercise. They need to lose that 100 lbs of fat off there body before they hump like rhinos. My point that i'm trying to get across is that it's not sex thats causing people to have carpal tunnel. It's the lazy ass folks who cant get up off their ass and do something about the fat they have drooping below their waist when they have pants on. Thats the cause of carpal tunnel. Not the sex....the fat.

Sure, it's fat that causes carpal tunnel! What the hell are you talking about??? And I guess we fat people will all just go lose 100 pounds before we have sex again? I got news for you. I'm not waiting for that and neither will anyone else You have some nerve, you self righteous ass!

Taking a quick look at this study, I am not convinced. They argue that the incidence of carpal tunnel syndr. drops off later in life - coinciding with a decrease in sexual activity. But what they don't seem to factor in is the increased role computers and keyboard use have played in the workforce - the use of which would also decrease after 60 because of retirement. But it's not a bad idea to have a healthy body weight and be good to your joints. Resting on your forearms or closed fists with a straight wrist might be helpful for some people. There's plenty of skinny people who get carpal tunnel syndrome. I'm just not buying it.

Being the one behind my partner I have found that when she rests on her elbows it's more enjoyable for both of us. Others partners have favored this position as well and would laugh at your scientific data and ask for another go just to prove out my point. Scientific data doesn't mean a thing unless you have a physical condition like obesity or arthritis. Personally, I think the data is useless and has no bearing.

If you need to make up an excuse not to have sex then you're probably with the wrong person !
More imprtantly I have issues with the use of the word fornication in this article. Fornication is intercourse between partners who are not married to each other. If two married people engage in sexual activity does there risk for carpel tunnel decrease ? Makes no sense.

When we started dating, he had just run his first marathon after losing 140 lbs. He ran two more marathons in the next nine months. I was very impressed by his weight loss and fitness program. I fell in love with him and became involved with his kids and family. In the last 14 months, he has gained back over 100 lbs and looks horrible. He obsesses about his next snack, meal etc.

Dr Castellanos is probably correct in saying that keyboard use also declines in the seventh decade of life. However, unlike sexual intercourse, computer keyboard use cannot explain the risk factors associated with carpal tunnel syndrome such as marital status, pregnancy, and use of oral contraceptives.In his comment he already has recommended a preventive measure using the closed fist instead of the wrist to lean on during sexual intercourse. Here are a few more tips to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome while having sex;
1) When leaning on the wrists. place the hands in a more forward position so that the angle formed between the hand and the lower forearm is greater than ninety degrees. This will minimize bending of the wrist.
2) In the rear entry position, women can protect their wrists by placing their hands on a high place such as a sofa while kneeling on the floor.
3) Change positions during the same intercourse or use othe joints to lean on to minimize the number of repetititions performed in a single position.

While this added pressure on your wrists may cause problems, I feel like the recent obbsession with texting and typing are the leading causes of carpel tunnel! thoughts?
