Is it that time of year in the publishing world, or do we need to up the Wellbutrin in the water supply?Judging from recent arrivals at Lemondrop, someone thinks womankind could use a little cheering up. In the past month, we've received half a dozen new books devoted to the pursuit of happiness. And, to be fair, according to a recent report on Huffington Post, women have been getting steadily more depressed since the 1940s.
But no more! Each new missive promises the secret that will put a grin on your face and purpose in your life. There's just one problem: Should you peruse even one contentment-boosting title on Amazon, you'll be plagued by self-help gurus grinning maniacally from your "We recommend ..." section till the end of time.
We couldn't let you suffer that sad fate, so we read five for you. Click through for our get-happy cheat sheet designed to decode what each book will teach you. No, no, we insist -- your smiles are all the thanks we need.

I just wonder why all of the books mentioned in this article are aimed at
women. Is this a subtle form of sexism? Men get depressed and down
in the dumps, too.

I am so sick of self help books. The ones being helped are the publishers.

INTERESTING!!! I'm in my 60's and have depended on only one book during my life to make me happy. God's unchanging Word - THE BIBLE. For those who want true, everlasting happiness, I suggest you read it starting in the book of James located in the second half of the Word. In fact, if you have ANY need in your life, I suggest you use the BIBLE to find answers to the issues you struggle with.

The books are not likely to make you happier; happiness will not come from books. But your buying the books, in the search for the elusive "happiness", will certainly make the authors and their publishers happy. That my friend is the true goal, making writers and publishers happy; they don't give a rat's tush about your happiness as long as you buy their books.
If all it took was books, everyone would already be happy; people have been writing about the path to "happiness" for untold numbers of years. So go ahead, buy the book(s) but do so knowing that the only people likely to get happier are the writers and publishers.

If you want a really happy making book you have to get Chocolate For Breakfast written by Barbara Passino. It is full of fun recipes including many that a child would enjoy - Chocolate tacos filled with fresh fruit, Chocolate strawberry shortcakes, parfeits filled with fresh fruit, etc.
