The highlight of the Fiesta Bowl had nothing to do with great plays; it was all about a stoic girl thumping her cowbell. During halftime of the TCU-Boise State game, the camera focused on a blank-faced member of the Boise State Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band. "Sad Cowbell Girl" became an overnight Internet meme, prompting a Facebook fan page of over 1,000 members and mash-ups of her unenthused playing with the SNL "More Cowbell" skit featuring Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. She also became a trending topic on Twitter, and was featured on our beloved DListed.
Then, reports started circulating that Sad Cowbell Girl's lack of affect may have been due to blindness. Nathan Stark, the band's interim director, confirmed through a Boise State spokeswoman that Sad Cowbell Girl is visually impaired, but refused to release her name or school year. He added that "she has a great attitude and a lot of talent." Busted Coverage says they uncovered her visual impairment back in October with a picture of her walking with what appears to be a guide dog.
A Boise State student said on the FB fan page that Sad Cowbell Girl's name is Lora and that she and another band member with a disability are "admirable musicians":
"Lora and Carlos are awesome!!...and have a good sense of humor...."
Check her out. And, oh? Play on, girl.

All I see is the same uncomfortable feeling I would have if I was playing cowbell on national T.V. I bet Lora and Carlos are as genuine as most of us like to think we are. It is interesting the reaction people are having to this video. I think shes pretty cool and somebody worth knowing. Carlos too!
