Apparently membership to BeautifulPeople.com should come with an anti-eggnog advisory -- 5,000 of its users have been banned for gaining too much weight over the holidays. The boot came after the site began receiving complaints from some of its users about meeting up with people who had gained weight since the holidays or whose recently uploaded pictures showed visible weight gain.
To join the online dating sight already existing members have to vote on whether an applicant is attractive enough. Apparently the cumulative effects of pumpkin pie, spinach dip and hot buttered rum were more than some people could handle.
In an interview with BBC, site founder Robert Hintze said, "Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded." Call us crazy, but we wouldn't want to date anyone with this mentality, regardless of whether or not they think we're hot.

Bad attitudes are twice as ugly. It's esier to lose weight than to change a hate filled conceited mindset.

when u see nothing but bones thats ugly. I don't want obese but would like a man who enjoyed my cooking, going out to eat, grilling out etc.. Some people are over weight due to medication or heath problems. I am sure if it was left up to these people they wouldn't be over weight. Just because they are on the site doesnt give you a reason to boot them off there are plenty of men and women to look at you dont have to go out with them. When I watch TV and see these people on crack or have aids its sad looking sight cause who would want to look that way and be with someone that looked that way. Then you have the fat Albert and Baby Huey type they maybe obesed or have health problems. People are people. Its inside that counts of a person. If you love someone you love them and it when or if they gain weight or get old you don't want them then its isn't love at all. But think about this what goes around can always come back around.

Don't mean to be off topic, but Lemondrop, did you mean "To join the online dating site"? Because you said "sight". Okay, just checkin'. You don't look so well. Maybe you should fire all the 14 year old girls who write your articles and start doing some professional, unbiased... whatever the hell you do.
The site is for attractive people only. I don't see how 'overweight' people being booted is soo awful. Let them be 'attractive' as far away from the rest of us as possible. Anything where a vote needs to be taken before you can even qualify isn't worth your time. More power to you, whoever was "hated on". YOU GO GIRL :D

Maybe this is why the socially retarded need to have dating sites.

I agree with you dlw. If you are so 'beautiful', you would not need an online site to attract people, you could do so without it. Any way this reminds me of that show "Are You Hot?". The Judges were gosh awful people, the contestants had low self-esteem..gosh awful show, but this is how many people are. I think the only person in entertainment who had a grasp of what was to be in beauty was Rod Serling and his series "The Twilight Zone". There were serveral episodes that delt with humans and beauty..dated right around THIS time. Who knew it would all come to pass for real?

Don't insult retarded people.
They experience enough discrimination, and likely wouldn't come up with something so vile.

I am rather baffled by the article as to why full figured people were
stated to have been kicked out of an online dating site. Kind of odd
I must say. Is this a true story?? Being banned for gaining too much
weight over the holidays?? It sounds rather fishy to me. I thought we
are supposed to be a tolerant openminded society ,regardless of what
all look like. Being banned for gaining weight, is in my own mind a
ridiculous reason for being kicked out of an online dating site.

Marshall, as a society, there is nothing tolerant or open minded about us. Slamming the other guy to help us feel better about ourselves is probably the most common compensation mechanism in this society. I offer David Letterman and internet tabloid journalism both as prime examples and prime causes.

What country are you living in, tolerant I don't think so. We have botox, face lifts, tummy tucks, and lipo suctions. There are more diet books than a library can handle from the Boca diet on down. Buddy its time to come out of the cave and read a newspaper or watch some TV if you think were a tolerant society.

Well i understand that the site is called beautiful people or something, but then again beauty is a matter of opinion. I am in shape and have all my teeth and i feel like i deserve the same. So i would not go chasing someone who is alot bigger and out of shape or just plain sloppy to look at. But that does not seem to be what this site is saying, more like a few extra pounds. That is odd.

Isn't that even legal? Isn't that considered discrimination? Are people really that stuck up? I thought being childish was for when you were a child? How selfish can the site be. I hope they get shut down.

Legally, it is not considered discrimination. I can't speak for other countries, but currently in the US one can only be discriminated against for race, sex, age, religion, nationality, or disability. Originally it was only the first five, but the Americans with Disabilities Act made it illegal to discriminate against those with disabilities (physical or mental).
Being overweight does not fall into any of these categories; therefore, it cannot legally be called discrimination when these individuals are treated unfairly. Because of this, there is little to no legal recourse for them.
As the number of overweight/obese individuals in the US increases, I don't think it will be much longer until some sort of legislation is enacted to protect them from such behavior.
I can see both sides of the issue -- the moral side dealing with the rejected members and the business side dealing with complaints and possible loss of revenue -- so I'm not even going to try to offer up my own personal opinion on the story.

Actually this isn't an American site, The founder is from Denmark, and BBC is a European based news organization.
