He smokes. He's fat. He drinks and drives. No, we're not talking about present-day Billy Joel -- it's Santa Claus, silly. And one health expert makes a strong argument for why he's a bad influence. (Hint: it's for the same reasons that he's awesome.)In Dr. Nathan Grills' (hopefully) tongue-in-cheek article for the British Medical Journal, he states that Santa Claus is a smoking, drunk-driving harbinger of disease, who needs to go on a diet immediately to end the negative effect he's having on the minds of children. Grills also recommended that jolly ol' St. Nick try walking instead of flying on his sleigh all the time and that he wear a helmet so that he doesn't injure himself.
It's written as a joke, but, coming from a country that has banned Bunsen burners and hanging baskets because they could pose a threat, it does makes one wonder if a ban on Santa Claus, or at least a revamping of his image, might not be too far away.
