The holidays are that special time of year to gather together, exchange gifts, and get an earful of unwanted input from your loved ones.In honor of Hanukkah coming to a close, Lemondrop solicited the cast of Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad in NYC to wax philosophical about this festive time of year. They have a few theories about Christmas and remind us what the holidays are really all about -- Jewish mothers and their unrelenting opinions of why we would choose such a life, why did we wear that, and best yet, how are we not married yet?
The hilarious show is taking the country by storm and garnering great reviews as the ladies of NJGGB "boldly dare to deconstruct years of tradition, expectations and guilt in a fast-paced vaudeville extravaganza."
Producer Susannah Perlman compares Christmas to Hanukkah with these words of wisdom: "I'll be home in time for Christmas--you can't say that about Hanukkah. If you aren't home in time for Hanukkah you have the next day, and the next day, and the next day ... even our holidays are passive aggressive."
Comedian and NJGGB star Ophira Eisenberg supposes "Santa's a Jew, because who else would work on Christmas?"
Click here for the most popular comments overheard from the mouths of the cast's mothers after seeing their daughters' show this Hanukkah season:
-- "I didn't raise a nice Jewish girl, I raised a truck driver."
-- "You used to be so good with computers -- what happened?"
-- "I laughed, I cried. And then I couldn't stop crying."
-- "This is what happens to you when you're 35 and still single."
-- "At least she's not singing."
-- "If you'd just wear a little more make-up..."
-- "Your little show was cute. Here -- I printed out some grad school applications."
-- "Well, maybe you'll meet a nice Jewish man and get married from being in this show."
Sigh. Well, it's good to know the holiday "cheer" spans the globe no matter which way you celebrate.
