Ever think about doing the Master Cleanse, just out of curiosity? Well, I did, so you don't have to.
For the uninitiated, the Master Cleanse is a 10-day (more or less) fast that's been around since 1941; some guy named Burroughs came up with the whole idea. You basically consume nothing (meaning you fast) but this lemon juice / maple syrup / cayenne pepper / tea thing (it's actually a pain in the ass to make) in an effort to cleanse your system of toxins and/or lose weight.
The cleanse also claims to cure disease and fix all sorts of ailments. The cleanse got a lot of buzz when Beyoncé used it to slim down for the movie "Dreamgirls," so I assure you it's very chic.
So here's how it went.
I decided that the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas would be the perfect time to do the cleanse since it would keep me from bulking up on holiday treats.
When you're on the Master Cleanse everyone who has ever been on the Master Cleanse gets excited.
"What day are you on?"
"Do you feel clear? I felt so clear."
"My sense of smell was so intense when I did the cleanse."
"It got rid of the pain in my back."
"Are you doing the salt flush?"
"I wasn't hungry at all."
"How much weight did you lose?"
Well, I did all 10 days so I thought I'd give you my take on the Master Cleanse. It's actually the morning of the 11th day as I write this so I get to have some orange juice today and soup tomorrow. (That's how you are supposed to ease back into eating when you are done with the cleanse. )
I didn't feel clear; I just felt kind of dull. I was tired most of the time and a little bit cold. I just wanted to lay on the sofa under a big blanket for 10 days.
My sense of smell is intense, but that just means that I smell food. When you're not eating, you smell all the food in a 2-mile radius. You smell bread baking, peanuts roasting and coffee brewing. I smell everything my neighbors are cooking. I smell food when there's no food around. I smell the ghost of food.
I haven't noticed any major changes in my body or less pain or anything, and I do have a few pains. They are happily still here for me to complain to my boyfriend about.
And I also did the salt flush. This is something nobody tells you about but every morning you drink a couple glasses of salt water and then take a laxative tea and wait ... Until about 30 minutes later, when the salt water and the tea come shooting out of you, flushing your colon clean. This part of the cleanse TOTALLY SUCKS. The salt water makes you want to puke and you have to be near a toilet for about two hours, which means you have to get up really early for this part.
Most of all: YES, I WAS HUNGRY. I thought about food nonstop for 10 days ... but I didn't eat it. I can't believe I went 10 days without eating. What the Master Cleanse does give you is a massive sense of accomplishment. Though I'm glad I did it, I don't think I'll ever do it again. But it was interesting to try once.
My pooper feels super-clean. There's nothing left in me at this point.
I lost 10 lbs.
So there you have it. I try it so you don't have to. I'd love to hear about your experience with the Master Cleanse -- so leave a comment below and tell me!

there's a safer way to cleanse your body. You can eat fruit and vegetables, and lots of olive oil for a few days, if your hungry add some yogurt and drink lots of water. I can't remember every detail of it, but it is on my list for the new year. But anyway, it's safer and not so harsh on your body, and does the job.

I too am on my 10th day of the Master Cleanse. Prior to this I did it several years ago for 13 days where I lost 25 lbs. Unlike the author, I am a fan of the diet. I always feel better afterwards. This time I do not know how much I've lost because I don't have access to a scale but my goal was to get into a certain pair of pants of which I have. When I get hungry, I just drink more of the lemonade and the hunger goes away. I agree the salt water flush is the most unpleasant part of the program but instead of combining the flush and the herbal laxative tea in the morning, I did the tea just before going to bed as Burroughs suggested. Its not for everyone but I recommend it highly. For more in depth info you can google Stanley Burroughs Master Cleanse.

While cleansing my body of toxins does sound like a good idea I am afraid that this particular diet may not be for me. I am way over weight and need to loose weight badly due several health conditions. Unfortunately I am also a diabetic so this does not sound like a safe diet for me to go on at all. I think I will just stick to eating less and exercising more at least then I can keep my blood sugars under control and not worry about going in to a diabetic comma or some such thing from not having enough carbs.

I don't know about all that cleansing stuff. Sounds a bit unsafe like some of the others have said.
My husband lost 18 pounds so far this month using the stuff at http://www.SizeZeroPill.info. It had a free trial so we figured why not give it a shot.
He tried so many different products over the years and nothing seemed to work until he started that one. To be averaging over a pound a day is pretty awesome I think.
Also, he hasn't changed his diet any yet. Just takes a little each day and walks on the treadmill for a few minutes first thing in the morning. I'm sure when he gets around to cutting back calories and adjusting his diet his results will get even better. :)
Good luck everyone!

The Master Cleanse is the perfect way to deprive your body nutritionally! Who wants to do that? It's terrible. Cleansing has been around for thousands of years and it's necessary to combat all the toxins we come into contact daily with the lives we lead. Why not "nutritionally cleanse" your body? Isagenix is the world's leading nutritional cleanse. You feed your body the most nutritionally dense protein meal while drinking a mineral and vitamin packed juice - Cleanse for Life. I released 7 lb. in 9 days and DID NOT feel hungry and I've kept it off! I have amazing energy now! It's a program, not a diet - and it works! Plus there's a 100% money back guarantee if you don't like it! Check out my web site below to contact me. Start living in the miracle body you were meant to have! www.healthyrightnow.isagenix.com

I think if you're using the cleanse as a "diet" you're off track. It's not called the Master Diet, it's called the Master Cleanse. Also, diets involve food. I would not fast to lose weight, I would diet and exercise. If anyone wants me to try their weight loss program and write about it for AOL/Lemondrop just email me at cjarabia@gmail.com

I did the slim fast shakes and lost 20 pounds in a month. I then slowly replaced the shakes with salads, fruits and veggies. I then progressed to working out and not drinking the shakes at all. I have lost 70 pounds since may 09.

I don't do this replying stuff normally, but I've been doing this cleanse for years. I've even done it for 40 days once. I know what it feels like and what it can and can't do. It's can't repair torn tendons or dislocated joints. Good luck with a pain where you've had an operation. It does help with arthritic pain. You feel tired and even dazed because of the poisons that hit your system all at once as your body begins eating itself. The lethargy DOES GO AWAY. But only after you've gotten rid of the crap. The more you have, the longer it takes. Your first time will/should logically be the longest. I do it now with nary a glitch. The mix is easier to make than a good breakfast. I make a gallon at a time so that I don't have to constantly be squeezing lemons and cleaning up. It does NOT just remove water weight. It DOES remove muscle, too, along with the fat. Therefore, do not do this to lose weight. You will be shooting yourself in the foot because you will gain the weight back afterwards because muscle burns calories and you just lost an ally that was burning what you were taking in BEFORE you cleansed. Do this especially if you have digestion problems. It lets your system have a break and rest, repair, and recuperate. The tea is taken THE NIGHT BEFORE and the salt water in the morning. If you work during the cleanse, get up 2 hours early, so that you’re ready for work on time. Start it Thursday night. Better if you have a 3 day, Monday off, weekend. Don’t skip the tea and salt water. If you thought you felt lethargic with taking them, just wait and see how you feel without taking them. NO, YOU CAN’T SMOKE, DRINK ALCOHOL OR COFFEE. Actually, you can, just don’t expect it to work properly and stop blaming the cleanse for your piss-poor performance on it. I don’t agree with everything that Mr. Burroughs writes, but his cleanse is close to miraculous. I don’t agree with Chinese medicine that says that there are only four basic elements, either. However, it does cure certain diseases that western/modern medicine can not.
And yes, this cleanse is worth the effort.

Doesn't anyone realize that one's body is constantly cleansing itself? There is no need to fast. But hey, if it works for you, knock your socks off!

You're supposed to do the tea late at night, not in the morning.
I did the fast 2 years ago and dropped 11 pounds. I actually liked it and the day I started it, was a huge office party with free food and drink. What a perfect day to start because once I denied myself free food and drink for the 1st day, it was easy afterwards.
Doing it again right after New Years...
