The New York Times recently examined the growing use of text-message records as evidence in court cases. Sure, Tiger Woods' alleged scores of sexts will probably factor into his inevitable divorce, but the Times also cited the text log's usefulness in other proceedings as well.

We here at Lemondrop are given to wild flights of fancy. So we wondered: What are famous trials where text messages could have played a crucial role in the carriage of justice?

Then we jumped on the magical Pegasuses of our imagination and dreamed up these "hypothetical" electronic exchanges from some of our favorite famous trials. (Some much more anachronistic than others.) Enjoy!
