With everything that scientist can do these days, I hope they can accomplish more ways to help people with disease's that don't have a cure. I especially hope the government doesn't cut funding for them to be able to discover these new things, like they already have so many times so far.

I am sure that there MUST be a better use of their time, other than making snowmen. I sure hope they did this on personal time and not on the clock, because the money and time taken to do this could have and SHOULD have been used to better maknkind.

To everyone who thinks that the time used to make this snowman was wasteful, keep in mind that it takes practice to develop any kind of skill. This snowman is just more hands on experience in nano-construction that will hopefully lead to bigger (smaller?) and better things for the scientist/student who created it.
Even the best carpenters started out in woodshop making things that were probably not all that useful.

I totally agree!
People think it is useless but they don't know what's really going on there. That could have been a hands on experiment for all we know.
I get what you are saying...
Marine biologist in training do test that have already been done, people would view that as useless but it helps them accomplish the needed task in the long run.
The government in general do "useless" military equipment test all the time. Some of those test are helpful in getting the right thing.

If you all think this is just fun and games, I challenge you to replicate it. This is a difficult scientific feat which is also practice for more serious endeavors. We encouraged our children to play computer /learning games because we know that is makes them more comfortable with the operations of a computer. Same principle, different level.

Try to make a replica of it! It may be amazing that they are skilled enough to make it but it is still a waste of time.I agree that scientists should be taking there time and finding cures to things not wasting loads of money just to make a microscopic snowman[that isnt even made from snow!]Please tell me if you agree.

Yea, he's sort of cute....It's amazing to me how people waste their time and supposed talents when we need great minds solving real problems.
