spaghettiDid you grow up eating spaghetti for dinner every Monday? A recent survey carried out by Merchant Gourmet reported that nine of 10 mothers regularly whip up the same meals, and one in four cook the same meals the same day each week.

It makes sense if you think about how picky we were as kids -- why would our mothers bother making something new when mac and cheese is a tried-and-true favorite?

We had Lemondrop's writers reflect on the meals that their mothers regularly put on the table for dinner.

Emily F.: At my home growing up, we saw a lot of Velveeta mac and cheese, beef stew, meat loaf, various chicken casseroles, pancakes for dinner and taco salad.

Emily T.: Since I grew up in a Filipino home, it wasn't that my mom always cooked the same dishes -- but she did use the same ingredients frequently, meaning that we always had some combination of rice or noodles and beef or pork. For example, we'd have steak with rice one day, then leftover steak with onions and rice the next night, followed by noodles with pork or beef soup. Then it'd be back to rice with that same beef or pork soup!

Lauren: My mom's lineup: spaghetti, chicken, some sort of meat such as London broil, pork chops or meatloaf, and often takeout pizza on Fridays. (FYI -- that despite all the meat, I am now a quasi-vegetarian who only eats poultry and fish!)

Erin: In our household, we usually had meatloaf, pork-loin roast, burgers, spaghetti, lasagna, pork chops, breakfast for dinner and roast on Sundays. As you can see -- a lot of beef! My mom always said the hardest part of putting a meal on the table is coming up with different ideas rather than getting stuck in a rut.

Tell us! Did your mom recycle the same couple of meals when you were growing up? What were your favorites?
