"Clarissa Explains It All" had us hooked on SNICK (that's Saturday Night Nickelodeon for those of you who don't remember) from the moment in debuted. We loved how Clarissa broke the fourth wall to let us into her world and we can still sing along with the show's theme song ("naaah nah nah na-na...way cool"), but it was her eclectic teenybopper style that had us always coming back for more.
To help us recreate Clarissa's look for today we checked in with our fashion expert Brian, who had some great tips.
Brian says: Clarissa's style might be a little too retro (and not in a good way) for today, but you can still capture the essence of her look without getting sideways glances on the street. Swap her button-front shirt with a fun peasant blouse and substitute a pair of girly ballet flats for her boring black shoes.
A floral blouse like this one from dELiA's is the perfect update to Clarissa's schlumpy button-front shirt. Plus, the cinching at the waist is super-flattering.
Wide-leg trousers look great on pretty much everyone, which is why I love this pair of khakis by Old Navy. Their fuller legs and slightly flared hem will make your bottom half look tops.
Clarissa's choker is a little too misery-chick for my tastes. Instead, try one like this by Joomi NYC. The flirty beading takes the style from goth to girly.
A pair of cute ballet flats like these by Bloch are the perfect finishing touch. Way cuter than the chunky wonders Clarissa sported, these shoes are also more comfy thanks to the elasticized opening.
