These days it's practically trendy to have lots of kids. Look at Brangelina. Or the Duggars. But a recent episode of WEtv's "Secret Lives of Women" focuses on the Quiverfull movement and shows the darker side of big, Quiverfull families.
As Kathryn Joyce, author of Quiverfull: Inside the Christian Patriarchy Movement, reveals in the episode, the movement began in the 1980s as a reaction to feminism. "Good" Christian women, many of them in the home-schooling community, embraced homemaking as their highest calling and left family planning in God's hands.
Says Rachel Scott, a mother of eight and grandmother of one who was featured in the episode, "I believe conceiving children and giving birth is an act of worship. You're submitting to God's goal for the planet and God's goal for you as a woman." She adds that women should submit to men, in her opinion.
But not all Quiverfull mothers are happy being submissive to God and their husbands. Although Vyckie Garrison was involved in the movement for 14 years, she divorced her husband and left the Quiverfull movement after her daughter attempted suicide.
"That was not part of what we had signed up for when we got into the whole Quiverfull belief," she explains in the episode. "We were a godly family. We were doing things God's way."
Garrison says that after that wake-up call, she apologized to her kids for putting God, her husband and the Quiverfull movement ahead of herself and her children. "Now I'm gonna put you guys first," she promised.
So who's right? Well, perhaps Garrison puts it best when she says, "there is no one-size-fits-all model" for families.

I'm male, 26, and just this Christmas had a brief encounter with a mature woman. It was wonderful. We met via internet dating on this site:
SugarmommyMatch.Com- a good way to meet like-minded people, and she actually approached me first. It just so happens I like older women and she likes men around my age. We had an amazing day and later on she joined me at a hotel. It was like a fantasy come true. Amazing company, amazing sex too and a really warm and loving woman. She will turn 36 this month, and my goodness what a connection we had that day.

Alisa.....Michelle was being sarcastic. That's the point of the "rolls eyes" thing. You DO know what sarcasm is, don't you? She agrees that the earth is overpopulated, FYI.

If all the people in the world were given, I believe 1/2 an acre to live on, you could fit the entire population in an area about the size of Texas. Over population is bull. People have just become lazy and greedy to the point of not coming up with ways to give everyone a job and the means to live.

Um Paul I think Texas is a little smaller than 3.3 billion acres.

Actually in America, we're not. If you factor out immigration, our population growth is pretty much neutral. Same for Europe (which has negative growth). Still, we can't dare tell the third world.... err excuse me, I mean "developing countries" to stop breeding like rabbits. No, we have to bend over backwards for everyone else.

@gr8bsn: So then forcing people in third-world countries to have less children is your solution? God you're a f*cking moron. What do you want to do, exactly? Forced sterilization, like the Nazi's plan for the Jews? No, jackass. There is a reason why all of the industrialized nations of the world are maintaining pretty much the same population level. The very act of being a modern society is the key. In modern societies, the percentage of farmers needed to feed the country is much smaller, thus drastically cutting the number of farming families, which by necessity tend to be larger than other families. Another key to smaller modernized populations is that they grant equal rights to women. When women are allowed to vote, join the workforce, and have access to various forms of birth-control, obviously that's going to reduce the number of children they have. Modernized countries also tend to be far less religious, thus you rarely come across women having ridiculous numbers of children for the retarded reason that their religion tells them to be submissive to their husband, never use birth control, and pop out as many babies as "God" gives them. Therefore, the solution to the world's over-population problem is to help third-world countries enter the modern age. Not genocide or forced sterilization like you want. Dumbass.

Oh, yeah, that's the grandchild. Neat story. I forget this family's name, but the mom had a daughter (Alyssa, I think) when she was young and not married. Then she meets and marries this control-freak guy and starts this whole clan where he is king of a nation of children. Well, Alyssa, of course, is the "black sheep" (I can only wonder why) and after locking horns like once or twice with her "father" she is KICKED OUT. Surely, he doesn't want the "daughter he loves" so sully the weirdo children from his own gushing loins (and he says as much). So after having NO contact with the family (her own mom sided with the "dad")
Alyssa gets pregnant with and adds a more ethnic touch to the family. The kid was about a year old before that happened in a Friendly's or Perkins or somewhere that the mom could afford (or the dad would allow). It was so pathetic.
