Welcome to the third installment of Lemondrop's Celebrity Memoir Book Club, in which we will discuss "The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band" by Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx, with Neil Strauss. You may know four of those five guys as Mötley Crüe.

And don't worry, there's no penalty for not doing your homework; anyone can comment, and those who do are eligible to win one of 10 autographed copies of "The Dirt" or one of five limited-edition "Dirt" lithographs.

So, let's start!

The epigraph for "The Dirt" is from Wilkie Collins's 1860 novel "The Woman in White" and reads, "The story here presented will be told by more than one pen, as the story of an offense against the law is told in court by more than one witness."

And that's exactly what this book is: a document of the brutal life and times of four dudes who drank, drugged and screwed their way into rock-n'-roll infamy. Each chapter is the "testimony" of a member of the band or someone close to them. The book is also chock full of "supporting evidence" including Nikki Sixx's elementary school report card and Tommy Lee's letters from prison.

1. Reliable Witnesses?
So, we want to know: Does the book's Rashomon style of writing work? Which Crüe member tells the best tales?

Personally, I'm partial to Mick Mars's "cranky old man" chapters in which he mocks his young whippersnapper bandmates.

Keep coming back throughout the week for more discussion of what is quite possibly the greatest rock memoir of all time.
