If there's something about the Irish brogue that can make even "Three McGriddles, please" sound sexy to you, you're not alone -- the Irish accent has been voted the sexiest in the world, knocking France from the high horse it's been riding on for decades. Sacré bleu! The data came from a worldwide poll of 5,000 women and found that after Irish, the Italian accent was second sexiest. (It could be the only reason women might find Roberto Benigni attractive.)
Coming in at third was the Scottish accent, because women apparently enjoy having no idea what a man is saying to them, or else they thought Scrooge McDuck was waaaay sexy growing up. A more plausible theory is that women want to pretend they're being bedded by movie stud and Scotsman Gerard Butler.
Following the Scots were the French, Australian, English, Swedish, Spanish, Welsh, and American accents in that order.
Be wary of these foreign-sounding men - six out of 10 women polled admitted to being seduced by a man purely because of his accent, and there's nothing more embarrassing than admitting a guy's pick-up line was "You're standing on my foot," or "They're always after me Lucky Charms!"
Tell us: What accent curls your toes? Is there one you find totally repulsive?

As a guy I find Russian the sexiest with Welsh second (I'm Torchwood fan and love Gwen's accent as well as that gap in her teeth).

I would have to say that either English or Australian accents are the sexiest to me.

Maybe I would think this article was a bit more relevant if even half of the article was actual information, and not some strained, unhumorous cracks at women.

I admit it, I love the Russian accents - though Irish is a close second. No fondness for French accents here - too nasal for my tastes!

I have to credit Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti for my love of the Scottish accent... Not only is he insanely beautiful, his accent is HOT! :)
On the other hand, I think the Southern-American accent is absolutely hideous... Like nails on a chalkboard! Yuck! (Sorry, southerners on this message board-- no direct offense meant).

None taken: but, I'd like to give you a cultural subtext as to why people in the South{from Western PA to TX,generally) have that peculiar accent....generally, it's a Scottish-Irish derivative, but with a harder Southern British monotone....A) people wused to live their whole lives for hundreds of years and not venture no more than a day or two travel by horse...50-100 miles! So, if you aren't exposed culturally to other possibilties, your own lexicon becomes limited. Folks along the Appalachian Mtns lived in secluded, hard to travel to ares, making exposure from the outside more difficult....this is a general explanation of cultural isolation. B) Also, during the time of the American Revolution, Americans so desired from the British Crown their freedom that upon getting it, Noah Webster began to "Americanize " English words as a protest..words like "schedule" were deliberately re-pronunciated different, as that's the way Americans are going to speak (read the "freedom fries " after 911 for "french fries")...C) people generally taught how to speak by their parents, who had the similar cultural exposure....and pass down the dialect......my own family has an English/ German/Irish-Scottish/Cherokee history that goes back 400 years in the US...I have an Appalachian accent and used to catch flak for it for years: upon finding out about my heritage, I realized there's a whole lot reason for that dialect and now tell folks to "not gnash my moutain". Hope that gives you a little insight to American Southern dialects!!--------R!!

No offense taken. I'm Southern born and bred, and hate hate hate the awful northerners' accent. And English accent in men is horrible. It makes them sound so uptight, uppity and stuffy...and gay (sorry).
Give me a hot-blooded Scotsman or Irishman talking to me anytime. And a good ole Southern boy. :)

I love British accents! A British guy used to come in to work sometimes, he was kind of average looking, but when he talked to us girls in the office he always called us 'love'. I don't understand about the french accents. I don't find them sexy at all. I don't like the sound of the french language or the way they pronounce things in English, sounds sissy, not sexy.
