Delta flight attendant Robin Schmidt brings a blank journal on every flight she takes, and asks all of her passengers to write messages, notes of thanks and jokes in it which she sends to a soldier serving overseas. Robin began sending care packages to soldiers in 2002 and came up with the idea of asking passengers to send their thoughts and thanks in 2005. Since then, hundreds of soldiers have received journals from Robin and Delta customers. Robin met many of her soldier pen pals on flights and says that she's made it a personal goal to ensure that no soldier feels forgotten. She's even teamed up with an elementary school, so that students from kindergarten through fifth grade send mail to a soldiers several times a year.
In addition to letting soldiers overseas and in hospitals know how much they are appreciated, she's also helping passengers kill travel time with a great cause that helps them avoid any Katherine Heigl in-flight movies. We commend her for both her efforts.
