Rainbow Brite has recently gotten a sexy new makeover courtesy of Hallmark (who originally introduced the little-girl superhero back in 1984). Now, the former dolls, which used to look kind of like Trolls but squatter, are far more recognizably Barbie-ish: Their waists are tiny, their heads are relatively smaller, and puffed sleeves have been replaced by flared shoulders. At least they got to keep their kicky knee-high rainbow boots -- which are still flats, thank goodness!
In all fairness, Rainbow Brite's image isn't exactly pure and virtuous. (Just look at how many sexy Rainbow Brite Halloween costumes there are.) However, in the new version, the protectorate of the world's colors is no more distinguishable from your typical Bratz doll. And the male Color Kids have apparently been deemed too fabulous for inclusion; Rainbow is now only accompanied by her friends Moonglow and Tickled Pink. Where art thou, Buddy Blue and Red Butler?
But worst of all, after 20-odd years, everyone's still Caucasian as a Kenny G concert. Which wasn't a huge deal in the 1980s, but in the '00s, a pretty big aberration. Guess brown and black aren't colors Rainbow's too worried about.

That's not rainbow brite. they really need to stop reinventing things.
Why did they turn her into a slut?
First they made Willy Wonka emo, now they're turning Rainbow Brite into a slut.
Stop destroying classic characters from my childhood!

It's possible to change a cartoon character from old to new without completely changing the way she looks! I was born in 1995 and I remember watching rainbow brite and loving it! Im not bothered by how they're skinnier or whatever, because the old one had a really short skirt too, its just that it looks too different! they're like the care bears- a classic classic that looks fine the way it is. Also, she doesnt have the colors red and dark blue on her costume anymore. are primary colors really that bad? red is my favorite color and its part of the rainbow.
On the flipside, I didnt think rainbow brite still existed until I read this article... at least shes still around for the sake of being colorful.

Methinks anyone who calls those new Rainbow Brite dolls sexy has some serious issues to work over...
They look more realistic, big whoop. They look nothing like those horrid Bratz (Slutz?) dolls. So what if their sleeves are shorter? I think they look cool, and yes, I was around for the original Rainbow Brite. I don't believe a redesign is "stomping on childhood" or anything of the sort. If people's memories and conceptions are that fragile that altered characters can shatter them, that's a self-concept problem, not the Rainbow Brite people's problem.
