Everyone wishes they were an Oscar Mayer wiener, but Laura Moller actually gets to be one. Sort of. Nobody ground her up with a bunch of mechanically separated animal parts and tossed her on a barbecue, but she is just one of 12 lucky people who get to drive a Wienermobile around the country this year. This past year around 1,500 people applied for the job, which requires a bachelor's degree and the desire to sit in an enormous hot dog car.
"Hot doggers" are not required to sleep in the Wienermobile, although they are required to attend "Hot Dog High" -- a two-week camp that teaches Oscar Mayer meat history, hot dog production and how to drive a car shaped like a gigantic wiener. The job lasts one year and typically hot doggers see 35 to 40 states on their tour of duty, all while maintaining a pun-filled journal at hotdoggerblog.com.
Laura is hoping that her position will give her a leg up when she goes back to central Ohio and looks for a job in marketing. Because if there's one thing marketing execs need, it's the ability to be frank. (Really, truly, very sorry.)
