Remember the 55-year-old booty-shakin' YouTube sensation we featured last week? Diana Campanella responded to our readers about her spontaneous choreography, her wacky outfits and the inspiration she hopes to be to others. Read her comment below:
Whew! I just read all these comments! I always seem to be the last to know about publicity about my videos. What can I say? Perspectives come from all angles and experiences.
My experience is far different than those who criticize. I experience a challenge and a certain degree of success, but mostly a lot of fun.
One of the challenges is to create something that has a continuous flow of moves without hesitation. Yes, it's all spontaneous and improvisational and nothing is rehearsed or even thought about before the dances begin! There are other elements to this project that I won't get into here because I'll be writing a dissertation.
I don't have to explain the joy of dancing, that's a given.
The success I experience is getting through the dances, and there are many back to back, with that flow I spoke of. But the biggest reward is when someone writes to me and tells me I made their day. When I hear that my videos have inspired someone to either find or question their own happiness, or get up and dance, I have done my part.
I can tell you that I'm not a dancer and do not engage in disciplinary studies of the art. I am from start to finish, making up a fun dance to a song. I do many back to back and the disciplinary part of this venture is to continue dancing no matter how tired I may get, how dry my mouth gets, or if I run out of ideas for moves. Believe me, it's a workout! It's also fun and I enjoy the little theatrics.
I dress up for fun, but do not have the same associations that other have with regard to my get-ups. It's all done just to make it interesting for me and who will see it.
I'll never understand the shortsighted judgments that take place. I have a different outlook about judging others creative endeavors.
Yes, I look at the camera when I dance; it acts as my audience and I like to have an audience feel that we are participating together or interacting with each other energetically. I can't see isolating myself from the viewer. This is not a ballet or an other kind of performance you are used to; this is my performance and my idiosyncratic 'whatever' that you want to call it.
"Poor is man whose happiness depends on the permission of another."
"Do what you want to do even if you're criticized."
Thanks to those who have supported me. Thanks to those who have not, but who will find the part of themselves desiring not to be judged too harshly.
I wish everyone pure joy and happiness eternally.
Peace, Love, Light,
Diana
