Usually, appearances on soap operas are reserved for those just starting out in their careers, or actors who have bottomed out and are just looking to catch a paycheck. But nobody told that to insanely foxy actor James Franco, who just signed on to appear on "General Hospital" for a several-months-long story line.

Franco will play a "mysterious character" who upsets the residents of Port Charles (not even going to pretend like we didn't watch this show every day after high school). Maybe he'll pull from the dark recesses of his characters in successful films like the Spider-Man trilogy or James Dean or the forthcoming Howl (where he plays tortured gay poet Allen Ginsburg). Or maybe he's just got a wicked sense of humor.

Whatever the case, we'll be watching.
