OK, we've sat idly by while people pierced their infants' ears, painted tiny faces with makeup and lipstick, and took their small children along on Mommy and Me spa days. But we have to draw the line at tot-size high heels. No one should have to totter in uncomfortable footwear before their time. (Especially when your mom is taunting you with sensible flats!)
What do you think: Are Suri's high heels and fashion-plate look cute as a button, or freakin' weird?

Amen Amen and Amen to Mary's statements. Parents need to be parents, not buddies. We're not in a popularity contest folks!!! Risking damage to a child's knees and legs and gearing them for a life of foot problems down the road can be avoided by simply saying, "NO." That's part of your job as a parent. Some things should be reserved for grown ups and teenagers. Give them something to look forward to. I bet the Cruises let Suri drink soda and eat lots of sugar, too...because she wwaaannnntttts to. Give me a break.

When I was about 4 or 5 we would go to birthday parties and we would always wear a shoe with a heel, not high heels but maybe 1" - 2 ".
I think back then a lot of shoes had a small heel anyway. Even my School shoes had a small heel of about an inch.
I think what was worse was maybe getting to 10/11 and switching to 3 or 4 inch heels ( altho it was the 80's ). I remember my mum got me them from the catalogue, they were made by Bally and they came in sizes under 3 and were in the kids section. I bloody loved them shoes and would wear them to birthdays with maybe some socks and a rara. It was normal, things changed though and heels became less fashionable and i wore trainers or flats for a few years ( mainly during the rave scene ) but then went back to heels after that.
You have to ask what is worse a child with a tiny skirt on and flat shoes or a pretty dress with a nice shoe that has small heels. It should be about the image they are portraying and whether it is stylish and graceful for a child.

Ok, When i was little i walked around in my play high heels all day everywhere. and to this day i have no bone problems or feet problems. My Mother Just amused me. And let me make my own decisions on what i was going to wear. Not when i sleep or what i ate but harmless things. There is nothing wrong with a child wearing heels. When you all were little i bet you wore your dress up heels just as much as you flat shoes. People are only commenting on How Katie raises Suri cause they just wanna talk. You go Katie! Your a wonderful Mother!

what most of you don't know is that suri walked on tip toes even when she was wearing flats. she wanted to wear high heels and would do even if she didn't had real heeled shoes.
so suri feet would suffer even more that way than wearing heeled shoes. I think katie did the right thing and I'm sure she explained her daughter that heels aren't meant to be worn everyday but we can't know that can we?

cute as a button i would say. Besides im 12 about to be 13 and i started wearing heels hen I was 2. They weren't that high though but when i moved into the 3rd grade i was wearing almost 3 inch wedges. I'm now going to the 7th grade and i love high heels but my parents only allow me to wear . I've just got a new pair that's like 4 1/2 high. I see nothing wrong with it becuase the heels are very small and obiviusly she wouldn't put her child in something that would hurt her. so common ppl.

I'm 30 years old, and I've never really liked wearing heels for one simple reason... they're bad for your feet. My grandmother and great aunt were young women in the 50s, and were career women through the 60s and 70s. So that means they wore heels from pretty much age 15 onward, rarely giving their feet a day off.
Today, they both have HORRIBLE foot problems. My aunt has has had failed surgery on one foot so many times that she now has to wear a foot brace that lifts her foot for her when she walks, because her foot can't complete the action on its own. Both of them have misshapen toes, bunyons, and arthritis in their feet. Ladies, wearing heels every day is NOT good for you! And if it's bad for adults, it's even worse for kids, whose little feet are still growing.
While most little girls will try on mommy's heels to see what it feels like to be a grown up, high heels should be limited to dress-up only. Feet weren't meant to be cooped up in shoes, anyway.

LEB I'm sorry for your grandmother and great aunt but that's no proof that heels are bad. they, like a lot more people, had a bad experience but others were able to use heels for their entire life without having such problems. even to the extreme of some wearing ballet boots on a daily basis.
the problem with heels is that you need to know how to wear them, you need to get used to them and more importantly not everybody can wear them without having trouble (for starters you need to have a great balance to avoid twisting your ankle on each step you take)
before you use that as an excuse to say that because that heels are bad I also have to add that for more people that you would believe walking on completely flat shoes would cause a lot more harm than wearing heels. it depends on the natural posture of the feet (among other things)
but what we are debating here is suri's heels. they are low enough to not harm her feet even if she wears them most days. (I asume she doesn't wears them on bed too so her feet will have time to "recover" from walking all day)
by the way... did you know that feet weren't meant to be flat on the floor either.
