CJ ArabiaHave you recently been laid off, but still want to drink fruity cocktails?

You can!

I have invented a cocktail called the "Get Laid-Off." Now unlike the "Get Laid" (that's cranberry juice, pineapple juice, raspberry liqueur and vodka) the "Get Laid-Off" takes into account that you probably don't have money to buy "liqueur." However, no Lemondrop reader (even a jobless one) should be denied access to a fruity cocktail! So, for the Get Laid-Off, simply mix the cheapest vodka you can find with Crystal Light Fruit Punch. If you want to get fancy, throw it in a blender with some ice! It's cool, refreshing, fruity, low in calories, and low in cost. (It's weeks worth of cocktails for about $12!)

Now, down to business.

If you've been laid-off like me, you probably spend way too much time on your computer. I've done the footwork and found some really fun/funny/cool/interesting links, hand-selected for the unemployed.

Some can help you find a new gig or a friend to help commiserate over your joblessness, but I threw in two that'll cheer you up in between your never-ending Craigslist scouring. So curl up under your Snuggie, grab a fruity cocktail and enjoy!

- Careerealism is a resource for job hunters, but take comfort -- it's not a "job site." It's practical advice that somehow also manages to be funny and very original.

- Whether you're unemployed in the New York area or just need some original, funny stories about the newly indigent, Brokelyn tells you how to hit the town while down and out.

- Unemploymentality bills itself as the definitive unemployment blog, which would be depressing if it weren't terrifically funny.

- Friend of Lemondrop Laurie Ruettimann doles out career advice and doesn't bulls**t at Punk Rock HR.

- Best Recession Ever. Self-explanatory.

(And now for the fun stuff.)

- Mimi & Flo is an incredibly awesome choose-your-own-adventure online sitcom about two jobless gals named Mimi and Flo who are played by extremely talented N.Y. actor-writer-producers Frances Chewning and Hannah Bos. I love these ladies. They are so funny and talented and cool and awesome! I can only compare Mimi & Flo to a modern day Laverne and Shirley. I don't want to tell you what happens but you will literally LOL. You can also find Frances and Hannah on Facebook! Keep an eye out for their live shows in New York city!

- If you're a knitter you know that being laid off is a dream come true! You now have all the time in the world to knit your needles off! I'm not going to spoil your excitement with the cold hard realities of life but I will send you to Ravelry. If you've never heard of it, YOU ARE WELCOME! Be sure to check out the groups, as there are several for out-of-work and laid-off knitters. One group called Pink Slip Stash Knitting encourages you to work from your "stash" while jobless and also shares information on where to get the cheapest yarn in these economic times.
