Savvy fashionistas know great deals can be found at the mall, thrift stores and online, but my overly zealous pursuit of fashion bargains has taken me beyond H&M and Target to some unlikely places that the common shopper may have overlooked. Here are seven surprising spots to hunt for your next cheap-chic fashion find:
Ikea: During their summer sale, you could scoop up oversize bottles of foot cream, hand lotion and body scrub with the cool Scandinavian flair we've come to know and love -- all for under $3 a bottle. Ikea's also a great place to find stylish jewelry stands and inexpensive trays and decorative bowls for storing earrings and other prized trinkets.
CostCo: This buy-in-bulk warehouse club routinely features amazing deals on top-name beauty and health products. (Stock up on fish oil for radiant skin, ladies!) Clothing is mostly a miss, but occasionally you'll find cute jeans and polos for the boyfriend.
Religious gift shops. Designers love to steal religious iconography, make it their own and charge hundreds for their creations. But for mere pennies, you can find everything from wooden rosaries to ornate crosses to the ever-popular prayer-bead bracelets at any religious bookstore or gift shop adjacent to a church. Don't tell the nuns who sent you.Click here for more great shopping spots after the jump.
The men's department. OK, maybe you knew this already but men's departments are worth a look -- perhaps now more than ever as men get more metro, and everything hot in fashion right now seems to have the "boyfriend" prefix (boyfriend cardigans, boyfriend jeans, etc.). Case in point: I picked up an adorable fedora in the men's department at Target which cost a couple bucks less than what they were selling for ladies in the accessories department. Other things to borrow from the boys: watches, tough silver jewelry, belts, perfect white tees and chambray-button-front shirts for summer.
Ecosteal.com: Similar to Woot.com, this eco-friendly site is bent on "saving the planet, one steal at a time." I've seen organic T-shirts, towels, linens and shoes pop up on this amazing new site, all at great, low prices. Remember: Green is always in.
Job Lot: These discount retailers go by different names, depending on where you live in the country, but basically Job Lot sells everything from garden supplies to drapes to groceries at reduced prices. Unless you're shopping for Crocs, the fashion always leaves a lot to be desired. However, I've had luck finding top-quality, drugstore-brand makeup, sunscreen, shampoo and hair accessories at my local Job Lot -- all dirt cheap.
Pier 1 Imports: Known for unique home decor items sourced from around the globe, Pier 1 Imports is also a treasure trove for fashion lovers. On my last trip, I found affordable pashmina shawls, silk scarves and hand-blown glass cocktail rings, as well as the most outrageously beautiful mirrored jewelry armoire (which wasn't cheap, per se, but it was hundreds less than what you'd pay at Neiman Marcus or Z Gallerie).

I heard a rumor that all Pier 1 Imports are closing in December, but I can't find confirmation, other than the sales they seem to have every time I'm in the store...
