Being born the wrong sex kind of blows, but the wrong species? Kitty Madison, born biologically male, felt not only the he was meant to be a woman, but on top of that, was supposed to be -- wait for it -- a mermaid.

Since we used to try to make our way across the pool with our legs crossed into a faux fin every summer, we can't get enough of the whole fishy saga as told to Vice magazine. We've picked out a few quotations from the Dutch mermaid to give you the idea:

On early Mermaid influences: "When I was 15, I saw the film "Splash" ... I still long for the experiences Darryl Hannah had. After I saw the movie, I had just one dream: to try and live my life as a mermaid. To this day, every time I see "Splash," I have to get to the water. That's where I find my peace and home."

On herself: "Madison the mermaid is really graceful, fluent and feminine."

On her mermaid tail: "My first one I made from an old legging and fins. Later, when I became Kitty Madison, I bought the same tail that Darryl Hannah wore in the movie. Orange with glitters, custom-made for me. I keep my tail in a fire-safe room. It's my most valuable possession."

On transitioning from he to she: "They put me on hormones, which made me tired and restless. I couldn't even be a mermaid for awhile. I never had any real physical pain, but the emotional pain is still very deep from when I was a boy."

On business potential: "If I could make real money with this [being a mermaid], I would never want to work again. I feel so much love for life as a mermaid that I would give up my real life. I really love my boyfriend, but if he tries to make me give up my life as a mermaid, I would choose life as Kitty Madison the mermaid."
