Having your 10th child at age 28 is unusual, maybe almost Duggar-level disturbing. However, Kylie Michelle Waite could well be doing it behind bars. The three-months'-pregnant Lavington, Australia, woman was recently sentenced to six months in jail for driving without a license. Unfortunately, this is not Waite's first driving offense. She has been sentenced by Judge David Freeman five times just since January.
Judge Freeman said, "The number of times she has been dealt with for disqualified driving and being unlicensed is staggering, considering her age." Waite currently has custody of four children, ages 9 months to 5 years, but this next baby will be her 10th biological child. She had her first child at 17.

Of course, inmates giving birth in prison is a problem in the U.S. as well, where a law was recently passed in New York forbidding the shackling of women during labor. Women typically have to give up their newborns shortly after having them, and many don't see them again until their parole.
In California, where women give birth almost every day somewhere in the state's system, one of its facilities opened a prison nursery this year where babies are allowed to stay with their incarcerated mothers. Similar programs are springing up elsewhere.
In Waite's case, sentiment seems to coincide with the words of Public Prosecutions representative Tonya Adamson, who said the pregnant woman should have been thinking about her children when she got behind the wheel.
Some, however, argue that poor parenting skills, especially by women like Waites who have a family history of violence and addiction, can be better overcome through education than incarceration.

I'd be curious to know why she is driving without a license. Does she have DUI's? Or is it because she can't afford car insurance? The laws are punitive to poor people, at least in CT. I would bet someone with 9 kids is having a hard time making ends meet.

It is crystal clear that this woman and others like her, are not having sex to have these children. The children are a by-product of the initial act. Therefore, education is a must ! Producing innocent children into such a sick environment is insane and selfish !
If these tramps must have sex, they have to be educated, and informed that there will be no financial help from the public for this behavior. If the children require assistance, they should be removed from the site, and given all that they require, plus a good education. what child could or would grow up to be a productive citizen in such a hostil and foolish family as this?

This is just too stupid for words. Driving without a license? It's not that difficult (or expensive) to obtain a driver's license. And, it's not her first offense.
There are consequences to violating societal mores. Imprisonment is one of them. She chose a course of action, and now has to face the results of it.
Our planet is rapidly succumbing to the effects of over-population and global warming and this nimwit has TEN children? Someone needs to plug her uterus.

Australian must have a welfare system similar to the U.S. It's called birth control, try it.
She knew she had no license and drove anyway. Now it's time to pay for it. Not as much fun.

The real crime here is putting a woman behind
bars for simply not having a drivers license.

This woman should be spayed like a house cat. Her children don't have a prayer for a normal life. Keep her locked up. She's a danger to society!

pingecho728: "Is the woman really dangerous to society?"
No, but her uterus sure is! I wonder if there's enough Krazy Glue to put between her knees so that she can keep them together for a change?

You think the first four times would have been lesson enough but nope, had to go for number 5. And has she never heard of birth control? It's not that expensive, certainly cheaper than adding another mouth to feed.

Instead of putting her in jail how about giving her some birth control or even
better still...have her tubes tied.
If she started having babies at 17 & she's having her 10th at 28...thats a baby
a year!!! Enough is enough!!

Put her in jail for a longer period of time to give her uterus a break! I think the government should limit welfare kids to two.

so what you are saying is that people who are poor should have a limit on how many kids they have. i have two boys, work full time, and attend college classes, however, the money i earn is not enough to cover bills, so yea i get welfare supplements, medical, and food stamps, just to make ends meet. uhhhhh, i bet you never have had to worry about your children going hungry. i think it should be against the law for judgmental people like you to speak.

Having a license authorizing one to drive doesn't mean they have sound driving skills. Every single accident or incident of drunken driving occurs with people who have been granted a driver's license. Public transportation is not always an option since not every community even has a decent one. There are far greater laws that should be enforced but no one wants to bother with that.. So here's the question; was this article supposed to be about her reason for being sent to jail or about the fact that there are many women who give birth behind bars? Heck if we let elderly people not have to serve time in jail and let celebs pick their jail of choice then we shouldn't force pregnant women to serve jail time either.

Your opening sentence is quite frankly offensive, "Having your 10th child at age 28 is unusual, maybe almost Duggar-level disturbing." Who gives you the right to judge the size of the Duggar family? Stick to reporting the facts and don't make unwarranted comments.

I guess reading comprehension is a lost skill.
