So this is what you learn in Congress! Though Al Franken's position as the junior senator from Minnesota came with its fair share of controversy, you can't argue with his artistic prowess. Sen. Stuart Smalley demonstrated his dexterous cartographic skill recently by drawing a map of the U.S. -- state lines and all -- freehanded. Of course he started with Minnesota and the Great Lakes before cranking out the lower 48 and the familiar disembodied outlines of Alaska and Hawaii.
(We didn't fare as well when we tried it.)
Do you have a party trick that could beat Sen. Franken's? Does knowing the shapes of all 50 states make him a better statesman? And most importantly, could Jesse Ventura draw a corndog from memory? Click here to watch!

Texas, Colorado, New York, Montana, New Mexico, Virginia, Maine, and North Carolina are all too big. Oklahoma, California, Florida, and Washington are all too small. Other than that, I'm highly impressed that he did this quickly and from memory, with generally the correct shapes for all the States and the Great Lakes.
On that note, maybe he should spend more time working than on memorizing the United States...

i hate franken and am still impressed. anyone picking apart the accuracy of this map is out of their mind. as an exercise, just try drawing one on paper while looking at a map of america. if yours looks half as good as his (from memory), then complain away.
