This morning Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar announced that their 19th child is on the way. The stars of TLC's "18 Kids and Counting" have a family larger than some small cities and towns -- literally. Take Hum, Croatia, which boasts a population of just 18 people. Or Fürstenau, Switzerland, where only nine people live. (The 14th-century city has a court of law and a gallows. Eek.) And then there's the town of Monowi, Neb., where only one person resides -- that's 18 people fewer than have hung out in Michelle Duggar's uterus. Maybe after Michelle drops this next kid she'll want to take a vacay to Monowi for a while.

This is not necessary in this day and time.
Husband is selfish bastard who does not care how multiple pregnancies affects his wife's body or mind. What is going to happen to him and kids when wife has a mental and physical breakdown? He needs to be arrested for adult abuse.
Is he only thinking about improving TV ratings for a show that pays them very well? Is exploiting his children the only way he can afford to have all these kids?
Outregously Selfish !
Also what is her Doc. thinking to allow her to continue doing this? He needs to pull her away from under this guy's spell. She needs REST!

He isn't selfish... He isn't asking for anyone to pay for these kids, and she is a willing participant in producing these children. They also had many children before the television show came into production- it isn't a publicity ploy. They are a lovely family who doesn't use birth control for religious reasons. She was actually sad during her last pregnancy to think that it could, in fact, be her last. Leave this family be. They provide for themselves perfectly well and are exceptionally down-to-earth and bright.

Haha Beth, I feel you.
I have to wonder if the Duggars are really as "normal" as they try to make themselves appear on tv. They're kinda creepy. The kids all seem really mature because they do all these chores and stuff but it's like they never leave the house. Do they ever have any friends over? Idk it seems pretty depressing to me.

My grandmother had 14 kids, so the idea of the number of kids isn't that shocking to me. But nurse, it is even harder to see this because at her age, the health of the baby is now in jeopardy.

I think when your children start having children, it's usually a good time to consider stopping. Their "system" seems to work for them. However the day will come where Michelle will no longer be able to have any more children. I pray she does not suffer any of the possible physical problems that can occur from so many pregnancies. With this many children. I wonder if they will have a harder time with the "empty nest syndrome"

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a sickness and this walking factory needs to get some professional help -- not encouragement from cheap television producers and the "God's gift" crowd.
Or, maybe this is how Skynet is born.

I think the husband is a sex-crazed jerk!! What man would put his wife through having 19 kids???? Of course, he gets a healthy tax deduction!! Men don't necessarily consider their wives health and welfare when it comes to having kids...however they do look at how it can benefit their wallets!! He needs to be FIXED!!!!!!!!!!

There's NOTHING wrong with having as many children as you want!!! As long as the following conditions are met (in no particular importance - however, they are ALL important!):
1. BOTH husband & wife agree to having one.
2. There is NO known dangers of having handicapped kids, depending on the severity and how the quality and length of life is affected by the conditions/illness(es) the kid may be born with. Why subject a kid to a life they may hate or may not even be able to enjoy or even know what's going on???
3. There is ample financial support to raise the child without affecting the quality of life that a child is entitled to... ample food, clothes, toys, medical care, education, etc.
4. They get equal attention and, most important, love as well as proper and fair discipline (when needed) as all the other kids get.
I am sure there may be one or 2 more that could be added to this list, but I am fresh out at the moment.
I can see where alot of these guidelines can get neglected given the size of this family! I think it's a bit extreme, especially in times like these! However, if they ARE able to handle it... then there's NOTHING wrong here... so DON'T knock them!
After all, God says go forth and multiply the earth (or something to that effect). He did NOT set ANY limits to how many a couple can have, etc. Actually, I think God has control over a woman's womb. If He want her to have a baby, then He lets the seed plant. Take Sara (from the Bible) as an example... she went many, many years without bringing forth a baby... then God finally saw fit to let her have one!!!

It just seems weird in our time. I my ancestors had 12 children on a regular bases. It was the norm.
They seem happy and normal to me.
They want the children and take care of them in every way.
It is real love.

Have they learned our world is becoming over populated? I do not want to judge here. Each to their own I suppose. I am just wondering how 19 children can get enough love and support, enjoy being kids with all the older ones constantly responsible for the younger ones. While mom and dad are being baby factories. The older kids are picking up the slack..
