Dawn Fraser is no stranger to a challenge. She's an eight-time Olympic medalist and held the 100-meter-freestyle world record from 1965 to 1972. So when the 71-year-old Olympian was attacked by a man robbing her home in Brisbane, Australia, her competitive spirit kicked right back in.The man tried to grab her, but Fraser fought back with all she had. "This guy came out of the gate and grabbed me and I grabbed him by the ear and I kicked him in the groin," Fraser says. "He threatened my life, and I got really annoyed about that and just grabbed him by the ear and the hair." A male friend then held the man down until police arrived.
Dawn, you're a champ in all senses of the word. This guy is going to get so sick of repeating, "But she was an Olympian!" to the other prisoners.

It is bad enough that this guy got knocked down "by a girl", but this was a "little old lady" to boot! Former Olympian or not, the message that this woman sent to ALL would be attackers of women--don't mess with me, buster! If ALL women did what she did, there wouldn't be any more stories of male abusers.

It wasn't in Brisbane, it was in Noosa, two hours north of Brisbane on the coast. Dawn is a living legend up here. She grabbed him by the hair and brought her knee up into his groin, and then held him down with her neighbour until the police arrived. Great work Dawnee.

for a short minute we will all hear about how wonderful this was and I agree, I think she should have had the right to have a gun and have killed the man, like I or my family would have done,preventing another repeat, as he will not be behind bars for more than 8 months; you see, this was all the fault of the society and our collective guilt. This event will happen again, and then everyone will wonder why he was out and able to repeat...I will bet $1,000 that this criminal has a previous record. I am tired of taking care of innocent, but niave, victums of crime, and the rest of you should be also...." I am depraved on account of being deprived" from West Side Story, 40 years ago.

I can't make this computer work..here it goes...this story will charge up everyone for a few hours and will be gone...I only wished that the woman had a legal handgun and used it for what it was designed for. He will be out in several months to repeat all this...and I will bet $1,000 that he has a record already. I am tired of taking care of victims in the ER because of our pathetic legal system...I have even seen people stalked by their original attackers after getting out of prison. Wake up people!! I am a retired chest surgeon and I know what I am talking about.
