Girls are supposed to be sugar and spice and a bunch of other sweet things -- but don't tell that to Gina Carano. The 27-year-old Texas native is an elite mixed martial arts fighter, possessing one of the best records in the field. Why We Love Her: After a stint as a fighter on "American Gladiators" Carano became the "face of female MMA" -- a sport known for its violent, no-holds-barred fighting style. (It's not uncommon for fighters to win by putting a choke hold on their opponents.) For three years, she held an undefeated record -- facing off against a small pool of female competitors.
Earlier this month, she went head-to-head against Brazilian fighter Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos in the first-ever major MMA event to feature a women's fight as the headline event. And while Carano lost the match, the face-off was a big win for female MMA fighters -- more people tuned in to watch the Carano/Santos match than any of the male fights on the same day.
Stil, Carano's dedication to the sport is undeterred -- even if the male-dominated Ultimate Fighting Championship doesn't yet fully support women in the sport.

Gina is so awesome and despite her recent loss she will always be the one who even made that match possible on Aug 15, 2009. It was a good fight she may have not faught they way she usually does but it was SO AWESOME to see her back in the cage i was in attendence at strikeforce and the crowd cheered for her so loudly it was good to be there in that historical moment.WE LOVE YOU GINA your still the FAVORITE.

i watched the fight, this fight set up so she will loose. Gina and her trainer not at all ready as one observed this night. She didn't even fight this Brazilan lady, Braizilan built like a male boxer and so agressive, Gina just allowed her to beat her so bad. Lucky ref stopped it, other wise Ginas face be ruined fr life. Hour after fight Ginas face was so swollen and bruised.
So we will see what we see with next set up, this fight was a commercial set up, Gina even she threw fight shes very well off financialy.
Thats the game, all money not the sport..guys watch girls fight for the sexual arrousement., sad but truth.

I have respect for Ms. Carano but with her talent she was not out matched just out trained.
She needs to study Santos much better.
She lost that fight before she even went into the ring.

If Gina is to fight Cyborg again, I would hope she develops body strength, speed, endurance, and groundwork skills to match or exceed Cyborg's. I watched their fight and saw a missed opportunity for Gina to pound on Cyborg, while Cyborg was on her back in defensive mode. I think Gina didn't feel confident enough to take an offensive mode for fear that Cyborg will overpower her on the ground. Nevertheless, it was a good fight. I have respect for both of them. Congrats to Cyborg, but Gina is still my favorite.
Gina - Stay sweet and always keep Jesus as your #1 hero. He's mine too. :-)
