Is Lauren Bacall, the star of "The Big Sleep" and "To Have and Have Not" really on Twitter? We think so. For one thing, she writes like an 84-year-old woman confuddled by the technology in front of her -- her first post being "I can't get this God dam thing to work!"For another, she writes about real projects she's considering and her real grandchildren. She also doesn't write very well. But no matter. Because if we had to pick a role model for our golden years, better believe we'd pick her. Why?
(Update: Some sources are reporting that the account is fake -- but that's not going to stop us from appreciating the wit and wisdom we're super-willing to attribute to her.)
She owns her flaws
Lauren Bacall smokes, but when she received criticism from her fans about it, her only real reaction was as follows: "The good thing about being 84 is that I can smoke as much as I want."
She respects the classics
Not only does she warn followers that if they haven't seen Fellini's "8 1/2," they'll "be condemned to hell," but when forced to watch "Twilight" by her granddaughter, she gave her daughter a copy of "Nosferatu." "Now thats a vampire film!" she Twittered.
She's not afraid to try new things
And it's not just that she's on Twitter -- it's that she's thinking about getting a cat and being in a Quentin Tarantino movie. How many 84-year-olds do you know who are willing to take those sorts of risks?
Conclusion: No one has more sass and brass than Lauren Bacall. We should all be so lucky to live so well.

Why do people always have to make a snotty comment about smoking. I doubt you will ever be anywhere near Lauren Bacall, so you don't have to worry about her smoke.

Why don't you non-smokers mind your own frigging business. This used to be a free country where everyone had the same rights! Just for the record, I don't smoke. But believe that smokers have rights also and should be able to, if thats what they want to do. Get a life!

lighten up P-A-M. Like any bitch that makes comments on smoking. I can picture you now with your two lil bastards...capri pants (ecru), french manicure, designer bag, Chanel sunglasses and a bottle of Poland Spring in your gym bag alongside your yoga mat who hasn't been laid in months because of yeast infection.... eh, people like you should be locked up and suffocated with our second hand smoke... deal!

Maybe if you run into her you should bum a cigarette from her; it might help you unwind.

Betty Bacall was born in Brooklyn NY; As was I; She is Jewish, and a Great Lady! She was Married to Bogart and had her wedding near Mansfield Ohio at a friend's home, now a State historic site;(Look up who it was and where-His name began with BR) As to her Smoking-I do not smoke, but I believe any AMERICAN has the right to do so if they so desire; AND to Hell with those who want to Legislate personal Habits---What's Next?? Can you Eat a 1/3 lb Bacon Swiss Burger with mushrooms & Cheese from McDonalds? (PS I haven't been to a McDy's in 20 years!) OR are you forbidden from viewing Certain Movies?? My point is this--THAT WHICH GOVERNS LEAST, GOVERNS BEST!!! That is From our Second President--Look THAT up also; I AM SICK and Tired of DO GOODERS telling others what is Best for them; FIX your own problems first; PAX AMERICANA

Get that cat, I recommend one like Oreo the cat who graduated high school. Google him/her and you'll see why. I smoke a little now and then and when I'm 84 I'll probably smoke more. Rock on Lauren.

You made one of the most famous -- if not THE most famous -- scenes in history when you said, "You do know how to whisle, don't you" to Bogie. And I've loved you both all my life. There are no actors or actresses to take the place of the great ones like you and Humphrey Bogart. Hang in there -- and keep smoking. :-)

Even in as recently a little seen movie like "Birth" you were brilliant....I saw you on Broadway when I lived ibn NYC during the 70's...you have worked in each field and been fantastic...I have three cats Miss Bacall and trust me they gow on you. All mine were rescued as babies and are everybit as nice and responsive as my Dogs were...just get a baby and hold it all you can and you'll have a great pet. I used to smoke so I hear ya on that one...lol. Your hilarious.
Nosferatu was beyond scary and brilliant....what would I do without my TCM ?

And, don't forget, she had Humphrey Bogart... she has always been sassy and fun. She is a little older than me, but I remember it well she and Bogie in the movie magazines. dx
