Our first thought when we saw this photo of plus-size model Lizzi Miller from Glamour magazine was, Wow, that girl looks real, she looks sexy, she looks confident despite not having washboard abs. Most importantly, she looks like we look in our undies (click the pic to see full-size). And apparently a lot of women had the same reaction -- the response to the 20-year-old's natural-looking belly pooch has been overwhelmingly positive, says Glamour's editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive. One reader called the shot "the most amazing photograph I've ever seen in any women's magazine." Another says, "I wanted to shout from the rooftops!"
The now-famous "page 194 photo" was commissioned for an article on feeling comfortable in your skin, which can be tricky when surrounded by stick-thin cover girls and seemingly perfect, Photoshopped arms. Even though we know the modeling world is a crazy alternate reality, it's hard not to feel a little self-conscious when Adriana Lima is staring at us from the coffee table.
But photos like this one do help, so kudos to Glamour for featuring a chick who looks happy and healthy, like she actually eats chicken fingers for dinner sometimes. We're not naïve enough to think this is the end of airbrushing and size zeros in women's mags, but with a real-girl response like that, we hope the media will take heed.

I think this is what the world needs to see. The models with the fake boobs, abs, butts etc. are so impossible. When teenagers see the models that are super skinny and flawless they try to look exactly like them, and they go to extreme measures to try. I SHOULD KNOW I AM A TEEN THAT HAS WENT THROUGH ALL OF IT. Having models with normal bodys is great! THANK YOU FINALLY! Maybe teens will get the right look on this subject. I hope that teen girls start to realize that they cant get their bodies like that without going under the knife. They need to realize that they cant be perfect, and that those models have had work done and their pictures are photoshoped. Thanks you again though. This could be an amazing break through in america for us women! -Bridget

Oh and Rachel its people like you that made me think i could get like the super models. You do realize what your saying dont you ? It hurts peoples self confidence weather you think it is or not. Sorry we all dont have the super model bodies. But i have worked hard to get to what my body looks like now, and its not quite the super model but im proud of myself.

Dylan there is no need to be completely RUDE! Your language makes you sound like a child not a man!
In the modeling world she is plus sized, and she probably models all the beutiful clothes at Lane Bryant and other such places. And still we big girls wish they fit us like that. So yet another lack of reality. Torrid only uses size 8 or less. We went to a model search for Torrid at the mall and that is what they say is acceptable in the plus size modeling world. HHAHAHA
Life would be better if it was NEVER edited. No one has skin that smooth. From the pores on their face to the dimples on their butts everyone has texture. Heck if you want plastic go get a blow up doll! Unless of course you acid peel yourself into oblivion.
And to all the skinny people that responded how easy it is. Congratulations but did you ever think that it is NOT this easy for others. If it were I think there are alot of chunky people that would rather be skinny just so all the mean judgemental people would leave them alone.

Now THAT'S a good looking woman! I find her very attractive, good-looking, hot, and sexy. It's about time this magazine, like a COUPLE others have so far, put a REAL-sized woman in it. Next, these magazines have to put these REAL-sized women on THE COVER! So that us REAL people and hopefully those stick-thin people can see what is to be found inside. I love the picture and I love the woman for doing something like this. She has all of my cheers and "Hoot!-Hoot!-Hoot!s" (Sorrry, Arsenio Hall just popped into my mind. Remember him and his late night talk show? If you don't, ask some older person, someone in their 30's to 50's. They'll tell ya.)

my only problem with this: in the first sentence, it refers to her as 'plus size', then as 'normal size' for the rest of the article... in no way is she plus sized!!
Still a gorgeous woman.

If that is what you call plus size then Im a whale. Because I have a size 12 waist and a c cup. So I guess that I am just fat. I think she is beautiful.

i think this is rly cool but i dont think Glamour should have edited the pic at all. but i give a lot of credit to Lizzie Miller and the people who took the 'chance' to publish this. Even though Glamour did this they still have rly skinny models throughout the magazine. Just like 17magazine..which rly suprises me sincew they try to encourage being HEATHY not just skinny. and bc theyre customrz r girls. i think magazines shouldn't have just thin models for the sections where theyre trying to show off clothes and on the heath pages..where they talk about eating heathier and exersicing
i was just thinking of subscribing to glamour. hmm. maybe if they do more stuff like this.
but no complaints :)

im 23, have 2 kids and i have a mans job. i sweat all day and i work hard on navy vessels, i do not stand around. i barely sit down all day. i eat healthy. i get a lot of exercise at work as far as lifting and walking goes. im also ex navy and even before then and before i had kids i worked out for hours a day. i STILL had extra tummy. STILL. whenevr i sat down, i looked like her. its worse now having 2 kids. abs is something i have NEVER been able to get. im sure with plastic surgery its maybe a reality, but thats not real. despite all the "what so now fat is ok?" haters, shut up. I AM REAL and i AM a pretty girl. i know i have worked hard to get a toned tummy but it is not gonna ever be ripped. screw you also who talk down about this photo. i was also anorexic for 2 years because of people like you. i am healthy and slim still but i will always look like her, and after having kids i get much more attention then ever. guys dont like scrawny women. boys maybe because theyre retarted. mature men find that woman in the photo sexy. scrawny women are beautiful too just remember you are what you are be happy with what you got or no one else will.

kudos to glamour for showing us that women are not cookie cutter in appearance! i've worked in the fashion industry and i've studied fashion in school. i'm not sure when models became our standard for beauty. its gone so far from the reality. the real reason why models were originally rail thin and tall? because they don't distract from the clothes.why are runway models so much thinner than print models? they are easier to fit. imagine: you have model A in outfit 1 & 3 and model B in outfit 2 & 4. you just realized the show must go on and model A is stuck in outfit 1 because of a jammed zipper. NO MATTER, youve conjured up model c to wear outfit 3. how? cause without curves, all the models are fairly the same size, but with curves, the models would each fit the clothing differently. I HAVE WORKED AT FASHION SHOWS WHERE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS HAVE OCCURRED!

not to mention many fabrics hang and flow better on the thinner shape which makes the garment more appealing to the potential buyers. It would be nice however to see the industry give some notice to the average and above average ladies, and design nice contemporary clothing for the real woman.

Why is this only with women. When I see a dude in a magazine posing with his shirt off, it's always a very fit guy, thats how it should be, else why would he be in a magazine. If magazines were full of average shit, what would be the point? This chick isn't fat, they just used the most unflattering photo of her. I'm so sick of chubbys thinking every girl is a size 16.

Hey, she looks good to me. Her smile outweighs a bit of tummy. That look in her eyes wipes out any trace of cellulite anywhere else. If I were dancing with her, she would feel JUST RiGHT in my arms. I hate the thought of hugging a skeleton. A woman should look and feel like a woman, not a bag of bones. She would be someone I would like to meet, just on her facial appeal alone. It reflects her personality and that is what appeals to me, not her waist or butt size. I feel that I speak for normal men, not slavering sex-hungry suedo-macho he-man wannabees. Personality counts, not pounds!

Boy you can sure tell there's a difference between real life and fashion life. They actually consider that woman a "plus size" model? She looks amazing, better than the skin and bones, pale, pasty white models that parade around on the runways. I would rather cut out my own innards with a hatchet than look at those horrendous examples of "beauty". Give me a woman like Lizzie everyday! And good for you Glamour for finally realizing that real women have a shape (and "pencil" is not a shape!).
