Our first thought when we saw this photo of plus-size model Lizzi Miller from Glamour magazine was, Wow, that girl looks real, she looks sexy, she looks confident despite not having washboard abs. Most importantly, she looks like we look in our undies (click the pic to see full-size). And apparently a lot of women had the same reaction -- the response to the 20-year-old's natural-looking belly pooch has been overwhelmingly positive, says Glamour's editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive. One reader called the shot "the most amazing photograph I've ever seen in any women's magazine." Another says, "I wanted to shout from the rooftops!"
The now-famous "page 194 photo" was commissioned for an article on feeling comfortable in your skin, which can be tricky when surrounded by stick-thin cover girls and seemingly perfect, Photoshopped arms. Even though we know the modeling world is a crazy alternate reality, it's hard not to feel a little self-conscious when Adriana Lima is staring at us from the coffee table.
But photos like this one do help, so kudos to Glamour for featuring a chick who looks happy and healthy, like she actually eats chicken fingers for dinner sometimes. We're not naïve enough to think this is the end of airbrushing and size zeros in women's mags, but with a real-girl response like that, we hope the media will take heed.

Oh please lady...
According to these comments you can't be a real woman unless your hefty, 'curvy', big boned or whatever other term that the majority of these women use to describe themselves other than fat or overwheight. Most, not all, sound bitter to me. If they want a magaize called fat and fabulous then dammit make your own and get whatever size models you choose but to promote yourselves as being real while implying that skinny people are fake is both hipocritical and immature.
SIncerely,
Supposedly another "fake woman"

so i guess the real women in modern age has never tried to be healthy. when will the media stop controlling you... if you read this please do not let the media control you for one day..(even chain foods healthy or not). models are the medias way of trying to sell you something thats it. if they werent pretty they wouldnt have jobs. everyone needs to stop sitting for 12 hours a day, stressing, and why does everyone wear suits? the media.. it looks "nice" haha thanks for controlling everyones minds again media. be creative people... or just do what you want.

This is to Rach below, I agree 100%, women all over have this delusional idea that magazines should use real women as models. You seriously think you're gonna be more persuaded to buy a bikini being modeled on some chick hovering around 190 plus then on someone with a figure? The answerer is no, because you sure as heck don't want to look like that in a bikini. News flash... all it takes is a little exercise and not eating junk to have a decent figure. Stop trying fool yourselves, get off the couch, stop eating garbage go work out and enjoy your new image instead of thinking models aren't real women. Same goes for men too.

I'm also happy that there is a REAL woman on the cover of a magazine. But by saying that she is real, I'm not saying that naturally skinny people are fake. I'm saying that they are finally accepting that the typical woman is beautiful too. Not just the one in a million that's got a stick figure body and has "no flaws" because she's been airburshed. I'm saying that they aren't just setting an UNREALISTIC standard. Skinny women can be beautiful too but that's all we ever hear about. Other women deserve to be accepted and told they're beautiful as well.

"YES....finally a REAL picture of a REAL woman..not touched up...reality!! YES..we are beautiful women...all of us....", well, maybe on the inside Barbara, but if we are going to be truly honest some people have to except that on the outside some of us are not so beautiful, and (men and women, alike) down right UGLY.

What is all the hoorays and finallys for?? what exactly is this article promoting? that its okay to have a gut? well heres a wake up call: not all women look like that either. it just so happens that there are plenty women out there who have muscle and are tone that work out, and work hard for their figures. put one of those women in a magazine and ill bet that youll get just as many responses. there is nothing wrong with loooking different, i get the idea of the article its just that why do american women freak out like cancer was cured when a chubby chick is featured in a magazine?

It's comments like your, rachel, that has caused many a young girl to hate their normal/plus size bodies! We are who we are, in all our glory and sometimes, my dear, no amount of exercise will make someone thin. Healthier maybe, but not model thin. It's about time we go back to what a woman is REALLY suppose to look like; hips, butt and curves!! PERIOD!!!

We are promoting that ALL women don't have to look like supermodels to be in magazines!!! What don't you get about that? DUH, we know that ALL woman don't look that the woman in the mag, BUT WHY DO YOU THINK IT WAS PUBLISHED?????? ONLY the woman with washboard abs are noticed in magazines! GET A CLUE RACHEL!!!

Stop hating, The idea that people accept chubby as well as muscular, skinny, toned or airbrushed is a joy all by itself. Some people do excercise but they still look like page 194 girl. So stop hating!

There are already pleanty of photos of you women who work hard to have muscles and beautiful abs. In fact, there are magazines full of people like you. Don't misunderstand, if that's what makes you happy, go for it! But, there are plenty of women who look like this woman. It's nice to know that's OK too. Too many of us feel we must look a certain way and fight our body's natural inclination and family genes trying to look the "right" way. Good news, the way we look, unless we are unhealthy because of under or over weight, IS the "right" way!

If a guy likes 6 pack abs on a women I seriously suspect him of wanting to bat for the other team but has not come out. For some reason a thought comes to mind of Al Bundy talking about the "boy" next door.
