Brinkley became involved in the Dream Factory, a nonprofit organization in Oregon that helps sick children live their dreams. The organization helped coordinate her week-long stay at Juilliard, where Brinkley sat in on classes and performed for students. She also taught her routine to students there, said Tricia Batchler, the student volunteer at the Dream Factory who worked with Brinkley. Quote: "Kiera will be the first one to tell you that when most people see her, they see her amputations," Batchler told Lemondrop. "But truth be told, when you meet Kiera, the first thing you see is her amazing and infectious smile. Within minutes you begin to feel the strength of her spirit and the grace of her heart. She's not her amputations. She's Kiera -- lovely and happy, strong and vivacious Kiera."

I notice how there are so many comments on things about celebrity's & real-life "stars" but nothing on heartwarming stories about "regular" people. This girl is amazing did you see the video? I never comment on storieds usually but couldn't believe this story only had one comment after reading a million about Jon's (from Jon & Kate plus eight) pathetic life. You go girl!

I think Karen is absolutely right. The media and especially this one is obsessed about Hollywood gossip. Duh...most of us don't give a hoot who is dating who or wearing what or all the little petty things that some of these people are engaged in. Raise the bar a bit and let us know what good people are doing in the world. It would be a great inspiration for us. This young lady sure was an inspiration.

people like keira are the best kind of role model for all children. she epitimizes the possibilities of every child in onepackage attitude, personality, determination, and spirit.
now i hope that she remains that way for the long haul. i think kids need her to wipe out the negativity of a michael phelps.

Thank you for sharing this truly inspirational story!
I was feeling sorry for myself today because I feel too old, at 43, to pursue my dreams and then I read Keira's story and now I feel truly motivated!

Keira,
You are amazing! I woke up tonight feeling really bad and decided to turn on my computer and the uplifting of my spirit was watching you dance. I am scheduled to come to Portland to interview a Baseball Legend in his own right in the next 3-4 weeks for our Museum here in Birmingham, AL. I am a chef and noticed you cooking some eggs. I would like to stop in to your kitchen and show you how to make some Eggs and Shrimp & Grits. (It's a "Southern Thang")
