Murder: Good for Business?
Thal lived in a brand-new, $100 million luxury apartment complex in Philly's Northern Liberty area, an up-and-coming neighborhood rapidly becoming an alluring address for young urbanites. The complex (and its accompanying shops and restaurants) opened amid buzz fewer than two months earlier.
Thanks to the building's surveillance cameras, several suspects were captured on tape entering the building and accosting Thal and Gilmore. Thal's last seconds alive were caught on tape in footage released by the Philadelphia police. And despite the shooting, business at the apartment complex is booming.
Arrests Pile Up
One of the suspected killers turned himself in on Monday night. Will Hook (also known as James "Pooh" Wilson and Keith Epps) was previously convicted on drug charges in 1991. His attorney told reporters that Hook wanted to surrender on Friday when police first issued a burglary warrant against him, for allegedly robbing Thal (he has not yet been charged with her murder), but he had a "previous commitment." The lawyer added, "Part of the reason it took him a while is that he wanted to give his daughter a hug."
A warrant has been issued for Donnell Murchison, 32, believed to be one of the shooters. Katoya Jones, who allegedly let two killers and a lookout into her building, was also charged with murder, conspiracy and other crimes earlier this month. Another man is currently in custody -- he's believed to have tried to break in to Thal's apartment earlier that day.
Police say they're still looking for two of the gunmen and at least two lookouts.
As details unfold, one thing is certain -- there is no "typical" when it comes to who gets involved in the world of drugs and crime ... and anyone can become the next victim.

Nice Surburban "Kid", oh yeah... She worked in a Nudie Bar. ALL, not some of the Women who work at those places, are also heavily into Prostitution... She got busted for Coke, while working at the Nudie bar. Again, there is mention of what an Innocent Surburban Girl she really was.... She got arrested for smugeling drugs. When she (no surprise), was shot to death, they found pounds of Coke and 100k in cash in her apartment, a place 85% of Americans couldn't afford to live... Again, there is mention of how she was completely different from the thurt written here about her.... What she was, was a Greedy, Crack Whore, who got lucky and was wasted, before her ship had sunk and she wound up on the street, giving head for $10...

Actually Bopco alot more than 85% of americans could live in that complex. A one bedroom is $1200 a two bedroom is $1600 and penthouse is $2100. Now I don't know where you live but I live in Philly and that is not uncommon, Also the media is portraying this complex as upscale and lavish and it is far from it. I have been in there and I was not at all impressed. In my opinion it was poorly insulated, poorly secured, and over all poorly constructed. Yes the area is popular and trendy but a few blocks down are the Richard Allen projects!! So please don't belive the hype.

Obviously, this guy's head is too far up his own cornhole to realize why they kept reiterating she was a "nice suburban kid". The point is, there's no stereotype when it comes to criminal activity. Sure, there's an X amount of drug dealers who are minorities from the hood, but that doesn't mean the homecoming queen who was raised inside the gated community can't take a turn for the worse. In these days, the terms "All-American" or "suburban white" are the truth, sadly.
I know, because this story, except for the ending, could be mine including all I saw as far back as fifteen years ago.
I even felt my part in this sad truth was "justified." I led Thal's type of life concurrently having "legal employment" that included paying state and federal taxes to avoid "questions" regarding how I could afford to live in the manner I did. My "clientele" consisted of the "all American." type, hence not a phrase that is "wrong."
At first, each day and customer would teach me something new about Society. I hate to say it, but "All- American" is fitting. I lived like this for nine years.
Had anyone died due to my involvement cannot be considered "murder"; I didn't twist anyone's arm to participate in what they considered recreation (and surprisingly many had the same excuses, each thinking they were unique for why they were involved in my world).
Fortunately for me, perhaps for others, I eventually had to serve my time in prison "paying a debt to society, this country and suffered the loss of my American rights; Religiously, I was deemed me cool with God.
If this was "all American" fifteen years ago and earlier, knowing it never got "better" -- what is the big surprise here? Why is this a shock to anyone? Why is everything in Thal's story newsworthy and presented to "shock?"
GIMME A BREAK , WAKE UP people.
