Recently, a letter from Gene Roddenberry surfaced that suggests he originally intended for Spock to serve as the series sex symbol on "Star Trek." (He hypothesized that dark, Vulcan good looks would be "particularly provocative to women.") Of course, Kirk ended up netting all the space-beefcake glory, but for our Federation credits, Mr. Spock is the ultimate man.*Why? Vulcan males are governed by reason and logic. They won't try to spill their emotions all over you like your average tapas-bar-going, Alicia-Keyes-listening Earth dudes.
I know what you're thinking -- if you're looking for a low-maintenance relationship with someone with the emotional sensitivity of a claw hammer, why not try a Klingon? But you forget -- Spock is humanoid, so you could take him home to grandma (unless she has something against Jewish dudes with body mods). Plus, with a Vulcan, you wouldn't have to worry about ridged-head-crest or weapons-belt chafing during sex.

*half-man, half-Vulcan.
Look, Spock's been to college. He has a job. And he would totally understand the fact that women can be moody. Just as we're slaves to our spurting glands for a couple days every month or so, Spock is subject to a septennial brain fever caused by a biological imperative to have stoic, reasonable babies. And if you ever needed to travel back in time, he could construct a process interface for you using only stone knives and bear skins.
Sure, there are a couple of cons. The bowl-cut. The Vulcan condescension. ("Your rabbit died? Ah, yes. Grief. One of your Earth emotions.") The fact that he only gets horny every seven years and greets everybody with a hand signal resembling a modified "shocker." And yes, there was that one unfortunate episode where he had a goatee.
But I'd let any guy who can't lie and only cries when he gets space sickness pretty much go where ... well, a couple guys may have been before. Til then, I guess it's back to cruising DragonCon.
(Check out more sci-fi guys we'd do.)

These are some of the best comments that I have ever read on AOL. Really funny!
Spock was definitely more alluring with his sexy logical brain than the ripped shirt, bare chested Kirk - skirt chaser that he was!

Commander Spock was the outcast, the stranger. On Vulcan, he was the halfbreed, the alien, the weirdo. In Human society, he did not fit either, logical and stoic, and not quite humorless. In StarFleet Academy, he was one of more than a couple of aliens making their way through the integrated educational system. He had others in the same situation with whom he could share his plomeek soup. In the days that the original was produced, there were also "strange, outcast creatures" making their way through a recently integrated system. (Airing in 1966, it was only a dozen years after Brown vs. Board of Education).
Maybe the outcast has a special romance to it, not the kind of guy your mom and dad want you to go with. Spock did have all the good qualities; a good job with leadership potential, loyal friends, and that balance between maintaining his logic and dealing with humans. His especial relationship with Dr. McCoy allowed a special level of banter that improved with age. Nurse Chapel had a thing for Mr. Spock, which he found interesting, but also a bit annoying. Do you really want that in a boyfriend?
Note: Nichelle Nichols was conflicted about her contract and whether to renew it. She got a call from Martin Luther King Jr. telling her to stay with the show as she was a black, a woman, and in a command position on the Flagship of the Fleet. This was an example to all blacks that there is a future.
President Obama is another step in that future.

I was born with pointed ears, I dont know how or why. I was the only kid out of six to have been born that way. It was cool growing up with Spock ears. Instant Halloween costume. My daughters ears are normal, she is in love with Spock (Zach Quinto) Live long and Prosper

I was just a nerdy kid when Star Trek debuted in the mid 1960s. I remember thinking, "Great! Finally, a real sci-fi show that isn't stupid!" And much like everyone else, I was attracted to Spock. Can't really say it was sexual, but I would have preferred to be like him over all the others. He was just extremely cool. come to think of it, maybe it was the ears! Loved that, so maybe it was a bit sexual -- for a preteen. LOL

I know, right!
I find it funny that other sites are so surprised about Spock being intended to be a sex symbol and saying that Kirk ended up taking up that role. They don't have a clue!
Kirk was supposed to be the traditional sex symbol, with Shatner's good looks fitting the standards better than any other actor in the show, but Spock proved to be much more appealing for being much more "untouchable" and for all his complexity. That's nothing new now!

How cute this article is! I remember meeting Mr. Spock at a mall in Indianapolis when I was a wee-girl, maybe 8-9 years old. He recorded an album of music and was autographing them for all us adoring fans. Of course, here I sit at 52 reminiscing about how thrilling that moment was (and I live in LA now for the past 25 years). My mother even tolerated me getting a space haircut. We were Trekkies from day one! What else can I say? He was one of my first crushes (him and Dr. Kildair) and now I'm looking at Quinto fellow thinking, "Hmmm, cute young thing! A worthy Spock".........live long a prosper, ladies.
