Recently, a letter from Gene Roddenberry surfaced that suggests he originally intended for Spock to serve as the series sex symbol on "Star Trek." (He hypothesized that dark, Vulcan good looks would be "particularly provocative to women.") Of course, Kirk ended up netting all the space-beefcake glory, but for our Federation credits, Mr. Spock is the ultimate man.*Why? Vulcan males are governed by reason and logic. They won't try to spill their emotions all over you like your average tapas-bar-going, Alicia-Keyes-listening Earth dudes.
I know what you're thinking -- if you're looking for a low-maintenance relationship with someone with the emotional sensitivity of a claw hammer, why not try a Klingon? But you forget -- Spock is humanoid, so you could take him home to grandma (unless she has something against Jewish dudes with body mods). Plus, with a Vulcan, you wouldn't have to worry about ridged-head-crest or weapons-belt chafing during sex.

*half-man, half-Vulcan.
Look, Spock's been to college. He has a job. And he would totally understand the fact that women can be moody. Just as we're slaves to our spurting glands for a couple days every month or so, Spock is subject to a septennial brain fever caused by a biological imperative to have stoic, reasonable babies. And if you ever needed to travel back in time, he could construct a process interface for you using only stone knives and bear skins.
Sure, there are a couple of cons. The bowl-cut. The Vulcan condescension. ("Your rabbit died? Ah, yes. Grief. One of your Earth emotions.") The fact that he only gets horny every seven years and greets everybody with a hand signal resembling a modified "shocker." And yes, there was that one unfortunate episode where he had a goatee.
But I'd let any guy who can't lie and only cries when he gets space sickness pretty much go where ... well, a couple guys may have been before. Til then, I guess it's back to cruising DragonCon.
(Check out more sci-fi guys we'd do.)

My favorite episode was the one where Spock goes down to this farming planet and gets shot by what looks like an alien tiger-lily which enables him to experience emotions. Not coincidentally a girl (Leila) who has been in love with him is on the planet, and has arranged for the visit knowing that it was her one chance to have a two-way relationship with Spock. Once shot with this substance he is able to love the girl that loves him and seems deliriously happy. Nay, nay, however - party pooper Kirk gets him angry which makes the drug wear off. To that sad little tune that always brings tears to my eyes she begs him to stay, but his job and captain are his life. Leila then says (and this is where I actually cry),"You never told me if you have a first name," and Spock replies gently as he wipes a tear from her face, "You couldn't pronounce it". Turns out that I have a thing for unavailable men. Sigh. :-) These episodes can be watched at Joost.com, which is why I can remember the plot so clearly. Great character - can't help being in love with him. The challenge, the ultimate coup of my rescue fantasy...

Ahh... It's good to know that I'm not the only crazy one out there with a crush on the pointy eared, green blooded, Vulcan (or as Mcoy would say "halfbreed")... It's an odd person to have a crush on, much like my childhood crush on David Bowie (when playing "Jareth" from Labyrinth). .. hmm... must be the eyebrows... And I agree Janine, "This side of Paradise" is one of my favorite episodes because we get to see Spock genuinely smile, and oh, it’s so dashing!

Oh, Kay - I understand, my dear. I have always had a thing for Spock and David Bowie myself. Sigh. I still wouldn't kick Bowie out for eating crackers in bed, you know?

Kay--
It's nice to find someone who understands the Spock love. I've always had such a crush on him--and on Data from TNG also. Logical, intelligent, no drama---what more could a girl ask for?
As for Bowie in "Labyrinth"---well, just Bowie, really---wow. :-)

What do you mean "unfortunate episode where he had a gotee"? Spock was totally hot with that gotee!!!!

...."I am 64 years old ladies....so JUST BACK OFF right now and no one gets hurt!
Actually, I had one of those odd, eye to eye encounters with Mr. Nimoy. I was 8+ months pregnant and had just exited the air terminal in Reno with my sister who was chirping away at me non-stop.
I'm thinking, " What the fuck am I doing here?" I look up.. and there he was, staring right into my eyes (first wife by his side).
My sister is completely oblivious. and chirping on....an as we pass I'm thinking,
...."thank you, I wish the same for you sir."
Live long and Prosper. My sister finally shut up long enough to ask,
"was that who I think it was?"

I always wondered how green blood could mix with red blood (as in the case of Spock's mother).
Why ask why?
Stephen King has commented on how readers must sometimes suspend disbelief by doing the 'mental clean & jerk) sometimes.

For me, assuming at least average looks, sex appeal is mostly about intelligence. Brains are SEXY!
Kirk was unabashedly the skirt chaser and while a genuine genius, he had the weight of all his ego and the heavy charisma of a natural leader to carry.
Now Spock... ahhh... a triple genius (although he struggled to be totally emotionless, he couldn't manage to be something he wasn't.) and he was a man of great depth and perception. At the same time he was almost an innocent in the ways of human beings. (Not as innocently naive as Data would be in a later incarnation, but as innocent as A Stranger In A Strange Land.) Talk about complexity!
Kirk was a hunk and knew it; Spock was a hunk who didn't give much consideration to being a hunk. There's something refreshing in that. LOL

Spock may be the perfect boyfriend, but correct me if I am wrong, Vulcan's do not have emotions. So, Spock would not be the perfect boyfriend, because here again we have a "man" who is emotionally unattached. But this is just an observation.

Vulcans DO have emotions. They just have total control over them. In the new Star Trek movie, Spock's father admits he married Spock's mother because he loved her, not because, as he stated earlier, that it was the logical thing to do at the time.

They have emotions - they just do not let them rule their actions.

Come on ladies, In 10 seconds you'd be whining about "he won't talk to me" or "how come you never tell me you love me" or you gain a couple of pounds and ask him if this dress makes your ass look big and being a vulcan, he doesn't lie and that would be the end of that romance.

Come on ladies. You'd all be whining about his failure to "share" his feelings about you and when you put on a couple of pounds and ask him if this outfit "makes my ass look to big" and he tells you the truth (vulcans don't lie you know" that would be the end of that romance.

I remember being 13 and madly in love with Spock. I guess he was my first crush. What does it say about those of us who find emotionally detached men sexy? I agree with Tara's comment about Kirk being a skirt chaser. That always turned me off about the character.
I still have a soft spot in my heart for Mr. Spock...

I was in my pre-teens when Star Trek came on. Between all the negative emotions from home and school, I admired the Spock character much more than the others. Besides, I liked math and logic.
