I started celebrating July of the Tiger three years ago. A workaholic by nature in a magazine job that devoured every moment of my life, I had a literal floor-to-ceiling to-do list hung on my wall.

So I took control and made a smaller list of things to accomplish that July -- and got myself extremely pumped up on '80s-movie fight/dance music. Thus, July of the Tiger was born.

But July of the Tiger is not about New Year's-eque, intimidating, sweeping lifestyle changes; it's about concentrating on one month of kicking ass. July of the Tiger is about making things happen, not waiting for them.

How to J.O.T.T:

ONE: Make a list of 10+ things you want to do in a month. They can be exceptional, but they must be achievable with in the month. An example would be "learn 25 French words," as opposed to "learn to speak French." Vary the list from easy to difficult, fun to serious.

TWO: Listen to "Eye of the Tiger" at least three times a week in the morning. I recommend changing it up with Frank Stallone's "Far From Over" or any of Irene Cara's movie soundtrack hits.

THREE: Find a group of people that are also stoked on July of the Tiger, get a mass email going, and share your lists. It's fun to read other people's lists; it holds you accountable for yours and invites team-ups where you hold each other's feet while the other does sit-ups, so to speak.

Awesomeness will ensue.

My July of the Tiger list:

1. Get a job
2. Dress like a ballerina twice a week
3. Finish my Web site
4. Be able to wear my goal outfit (lose weight) -- PILATES! RUN!
5. Learn the song "Gloria" in Italian and sing it at karaoke
6. Eat fruit and vegetables every day
7. Paint
8. Organize all my drives and computer files
9. Get rid of all frumpy clothes
10. Keep everything perfectly plucked, shaved and polished for the month
11. Go swimming in the ocean twice
12. Do a photo inventory of everything I own
13. Be brave and take self-portrait
14. Continue to be nice to animals
