A federal judge on Thursday overturned a guilty verdict against 50-year-old mother Lori Drew, the woman many consider responsible for the 2006 cyber-bullying death of Missouri teen Megan Meier. Drew used MySpace to pose as a 16-year-old boy named Josh who flirted with and then taunted Megan. Writing as Josh, Drew told Megan that "the world would be a better place without you." Hours later, Megan hanged herself. Drew was originally found guilty of three misdemeanor charges and was scheduled to be sentenced today, but the judge dismissed the charges.
What do you think? Is Drew responsible for Megan's death or should she be let free? Tell us in the comments.

If the adult tauted the child in way to make child commit suicide and the court found evidence she should be punished; if there was a law on the books against that. If there is such a thing as mental or emotional abuse by words, what would make this case any different.

I think what Lori did was terrible. All bullies should be rebuked in an attempt to prevent pain. However, I don't think a person should be thrown in jail for just being a jerk. I think Lori crossed a line that she didn't know that she was crossing. Anyway, I don't think this case was resting on whether Lori could be punished by the law for bullying leading to killing; it had something to do with violations of terms of use of MySpace.

She is guilty - reading a quote from her police reports about how she did not feel guilty about the young girl's suicide because she had been depressed anyway only adds to the sick twisted mind she has.
She caused extreme emotional pain and had several sexual conversations with a 13-year old girl. Whatever they can dig up to throw at her, I wish they would - I just think the young girl's parents are too tired to keep feeding the legal fees, unfortunately.

As a mom of two young teenage boys I know how much it hurts to watch them hurt but to do what “My Space mom” Lori Drew did was just going too far. What is wrong with this world we live in? Where is social and moral responsibility? When will people start being held responsible for their actions? If she had done the things she did to Megan in “real life”, not hiding behind a computer screen she would have at the very least been charged with criminal harassment or something if not more serious. http://myselkie.com/blog/index.php/2009/07/03/when-protective-parenting-goes-too-far/

thats so sad. Ive heard about this case before but this woman what she did was wrong and terrible and as an adult she knows right from wrong so she should be punished for he actions. How is what she did not considered cyber bullying? etc.? This woman better feel guilty and know that she was responsible for this poor girls death.

My understanding is there is another case of "cyber bullying" and if that woman gets convicted of it I hope they go after this lady too. What she did was not right and she should be punished for it. they should go after her for "cyber bullying" and manslaughter or something like that.

I think that this woman is sick, and if I were her I would never be able to live with myself. I just want to scream, I want to use the foulest language there is to describe her, because that's not even a small piece of what she deserves. Sure, two wrongs don't make a right, but what if it was HER daughter? What if Megan and her mother did that to Lori Drew's daughter? The monster of a woman probably never thinks about it because it makes her sick to her stomach. What an awful, ugly, disgrace of a person. I feel terrible for saying such mean things about her, but she pushed a thirteen year old girl over the edge. Sure, maybe the girl already had psychological problems and her parents should have monitored her internet use but that doesn't make a difference. This story makes me so sad. :(

Lori Drew responsible for Megan's death and should be punished. What she did was wrong by all mean. Because of her a young girl took her life. She is sick person and if she is not in jail then she should be put into a mental institute. She does not deserve to walk free. If I was the parents of this girl I would do everything in my power to make sure she is in jail or the crazy house. What grown woman who knows right and wrong would do something like this to a teen. She is not right in the head. Who cares what here motive for taunting the girl if she didn't like her she should of just left her alone. I mean i am really pissed about this. People are getting away with more and more things now and days. To Lori Drew I hope that someone realizes how crazy you are and sticks you in the nut house.

AND WHY IF PARENTS ARE SO CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR KIDS SAFTEY, WHY ARE THE PARENTS LETTING THEIR EMOTIONALLY, UNSTABLE CHILDREN GET ON THE COMPUTER ANY WAY?????????????????? If the authorities would lock Lori up where she belongs other children would be safe. You're as sick minded as Lori is, get yourself some help. You are clearly void of morals and no child is safe around you just like Lori Drew. I can't imagine parents allowing their children to associate with Lori's daughter, she's proven to be a danger to any child.
A woman as old as Lori Drew should know better. She's a haggard, aging, ugly mess that was posing as a young boy to get back at a child. If she can live with what she's done and makes no apologies for it then parents should be very concerned about their children.
Too bad Lori Drew doesn't go hang herself in a closet, the world would be a better place with her.

Her actions were deliberate and intentional. How could the judge fail to see that? If I were the judge she would have had to serve a fair amount of time for mental and emotional abuse leading to suicide. Heck, it's too damn close to homicide. This was an adult playing with the emotions of a child, a mother who knew damn well the damage she could and did cause. Though the judge may have acquitted her I hope and pray her conscience gets the better of her for the rest of her days.
