Lemondrop Tests: Will Smooth Away make my skin glow? You know what the bearded lady's problem was? Too much hair. Everywhere. I'm not exactly a bearded lady, but I'm always on the lookout for ways to destroy my diabolical follicles.
Enter Smooth Away, a pad covered with super-fine crystals that, according to the box, buffs hair right off a girl's face. Easier than the no!no! hair burner? Safer than razor blades? Zang!
Less than 20 minutes later, I was home rubbing off my hair in the recommended "gentle, circular" motion and enjoying the fact that I was getting a decent facial at the same time.
Hair and dead skin cells, removed for less than $10? I was in heaven, and the glow showed. When I finished, I was smooth, exfoliated and ready to make Smooth Away my new best friend.
Twelve hours later I woke up to a face that looked like hamburger meat. I was molting from the neck up. Angry red patches of diced-up skin along my jaw line and upper lip made my worst nightmare come true: I was the bearded lady, only instead of hair, I had scabs. For the next week, I walked around looking like I had been styled by a bag of gravel. And when my skin grew back, so did my hair. Only now, hirsutism is no longer my biggest fear -- Smooth Away is.

I haven't used it on my face, but I used smooth away on my legs and found it to work well. The hair also took a long time to grow back. If you follow the directions, they say to not rub too long in one place....

I used a similar product in the early 90's made of pumice stone. I, too, had scabby, nasty-looking skin afterwards. If you push down hard enough to actually remove any hair, you are removing skin with it. Don't buy this product! Not only does it cause pain due to the raw skin being rubbed away, it causes extreme embarrassment when you have to make up a lie about how your face got scabbed over...

First off - a disclaimer. I work for a company that makes (chemical based) Female depilatory aka hair removal products. Because we at the office all hears about the amazing results and Sales of Smooth Away we trotted off to the local Drug store and bought a few (6) for each of us to try.
Benefits: No mess, no smell as some depliatories are poo pooed about
Negatives: Most of us had red, and raw skin...and surprise, the "active ingredient" in Smooth Away is sand paper...so it really is no surprise that the majority of us had ill effects.
We'll stick with our own products - which I am not naming here so as not to further inflame Smooth Away lovers or depliatory haters, but I will say that when properly used, using a chemical depilatory will remove hair, exfoliate (they all do), and lead to the return of finer, softer hair re-growing...Just requires patience and the ability or willingness to follow directions...

I have used this product, but only on my legs and bikini area. Neither area developed scabs or bumps. On the other hand, I have tried several different brands of chemical hair removers that specifically stated for bikini line area, and received, with all of them, chemical burns.. Not mild ones either, I have had blisters from these products. I used them just as stated on the bottle as well.
All in all though- I will stick with plucking the damn little hairs out with my tweezers, this Smooth Away thing just takes to much time.
Please though- let me know when the company makes a chemical hair remover that doesn't leave me in the hospital embarrassed to explain why my bikini line has chemical burns on it.

I have been using smooth away for my arms and face for months. It works perfectly. I first tried it on my arms and it took a while til I actually got the hang of it. There were a couple spots where i got the bumps from rubbing too hard, but you just have to get used to it. Haven't had a problem with my face at all. I don't even have to take the tweezers to my upper lip or burn it with cream. Gets rid of dead skin and scars from break outs too. Haven't tried it anywhere else.

My sister got this smooth away thing and I wanted to see if it did any good. Like Dee I only used it on my legs and was careful to watch how much i did in one place and read everything then put on lotion immediately after. Again like Dee I had very smooth legs that lasted for much longer than shaving but it did take a while to get there. Now when I use it its usually after shaving just enough to get most off then smooth away as a touch up. Still i found it a good product so long as you're careful.

I was intrigued when I saw the ads for this product, but I am the total opposite of an
available-only-on-TV Junkie . . . I always assume that the products are substandard and will not work. And then my mother tucked a set into a box of things she sent to me. It did take a bit of time to get the technique down, and the first time I attempted my facial area I rubbed too hard and irritated an area. But I knew better than to keep going with an unfamiliar product! And my legs - Oh My Golly Gracious! Incredible! (once I got used to the technique). No hair, smooth and exfoliated, WOW!

My 10 yr old daughter told me she ws tired of looking like she had monkey legs, I was not ready for her and a Razor... OMG NO! so we got a Smooth Away set and tried it on her and I both... We LOVE IT. It worked great on my stiffer shaved forever legs and her new softer never been shaved before legs. We were careful to not over use it in any one place and used lotion afterward as per instructions. I went out the next day and got a set of my mother and myself that way we each had thier own and granny could use one too.

I've only used it on my legs - it works, but it takes time. The up-side? I use it while sitting around watching TV. Doesn't take any real concentration, no balancing act in the shower with one leg jambed against the wall trying not to cut the boney areas. It's not bad. Don't think I'll use the little one on my face any time soon though.....

oMg.. I hate smooth away.. Same thing happened to me... Tried it on my face and broke out like crazy .. I didn't even rub hard and it looked great afterward.. but dear god, the next morning was a nightmare come true!! I woke up to a red, itchy, blotchy face .. Also, after the rash went away my skin was dry and had the texture of a snake's skin (literally .. my fiance hated it) for like.. 3 weeks after. :(
Tried on Arms, Broke Out..
Tried on Legs.. Broke out there, too.

I found it worked on my legs, altho I really don't have much hair on my legs since menopause. So it really works great and doesn't grow back quickly. I wouldn't even attempt to use it on my face, after all it's just really fine sand paper.

I bought this product because I was sick of shaving and getting cuts, it did not work at all, you have to rub your skin so hard for it to work at all, and it left my skin extremely irritated. It worked for peach fuz hair on your face, but not for legs or bikini area! do not buy it, its a waste of money
