Go HerbalYou've probably heard that gingko biloba enhances and protects memory. But there's a new kid on the block as well: Pycnogenol, an antioxidant derived from tree bark, has been shown to improve memory in senior citizens. Though research on both supplements is still ongoing, they seem promising ... provided you can remember to take them regularly in the first place.
Watch the Partying
Guess what? Too much vodka doesn't just lead to a hangover. It can actually impair your memory. In fact, a recent study from the University of Kentucky showed that hitting the bottle too hard for two months impairs memory for the next three months. In other words, party too hard for too long and you may not remember any of it later on (which is never a good thing).
Sleep on It
Got something you REALLY need to remember? Read it and sleep. Studies show that snoozing not only protects memories, but helps strengthen them. There's also evidence that a midday nap can help with long-term memory formation. As if we really needed another excuse to nap during the day, now we know it can help us win "Jeopardy." Score!

I have done a lot of study on memory as an Rn who works with the elderly. I also majored in psychology and took courses on memory,. Mnemonic devices do work wonders such as the example "stinky sally". or attributing something to the person at a party, such as Nancy Nose or pretty patty. The best one that i even use is if you have several errands or items to pick up, try to put them all under one letter. For example, if you need milk, scissors, and detergent. Hard to remember but if you put them under the letter C, cow(milk), cut (scissors) and clothes(detergent) it helps immensely, espec if you remember how many items or errands you need. Mind games do keep you sharp as well, espec games like scrabble, crosswords, thinking games. You'll be amazed at how you improve within a short time. Hand held games work if you dont have a partner willing to do this. Hope this helps!

Wow that was great infor angelguard.... Thanks so much! My dad who has always been a very intelligent man has been very forgetful lately even with his bills. I think he is under a lot of stress due to work and on the verge of retiring.
I am going to suggest what you said about grouping the letters under one :)

Forget things. Sure do. first name of the park I live in is common for me, when
I go to write the rent check. maybe I'm lost and dont know it. have lived here for three years. Maybe I just dont want to pay the rent, or dont want to live here.
That last one is probably it as have been looking for other places to hang my
hat. any thoughts ?

You could be right about the not wanting to really live where you are, however, unpleasant things stick in our minds even more prominently, so my guess is its not that. There are words that for some reason escapes people no matter how long theyve lived there, etc. My suggestion would be to find some charactoristic thing that you espec. LIKE about where you live that also begins with the same letter as the name of the park, or rhymes with it. Or, finding something that reminds you of the name should work, espec a pleasant thing. For example if its called Reed Park, you could think of several things, such as Feed, if you feed the ducks, or Red if there is a red playground, or Read, if you like to read at home. I hope this helps you!

Thanks for the great tips. I found them helpful and informative. I've been having memory problems for many years, even though I'. only 52. I wonder if taking Anti-oxidant Fatty Acids would help (the exact name escapes me right now, No Haha ha.) It helps Pregnant and New Moms w/ their Memory. their problem is because when Ur pregnant or... , the developing baby takes 20% of their Mothers brain to form theirs and our brain is made up of mostly fat. So replacing the loss w/ fluids and Fatty acids replaces the Brain loss and there by, the Memory. this probably won't work for the rest of us, but it might be worth a try.
