A Polish couple who had been living together in Germany got married and decided to get an annulment on the same day, after a huge fight broke out almost immediately post-nuptials. It escalated pretty quickly into that "I never want to see you again" phase, which must be pretty awkward right after tying the knot with somebody. Then the groom began chasing his bride around with a knife and trying to cut her hair. (Judging by what we learned from the Claire Danes movie, we're pretty sure that's not a Polish wedding tradition.) The cops were called by wifey and they issued the man a restraining order, which he gladly accepted.
To put the cherry on top of the worst wedding day ever, the surly groom spent his wedding night sleeping alone in a homeless shelter for men. Well, at least as alone as a person can be in a homeless shelter, that is. Happy June!
For some reason it was a little more entertaining when Britney Spears did it. Perhaps that's because her short-lived marriage to a high school buddy involved Vegas shenanigans instead of somebody being chased around with a kitchen knife.

Thank the powers holy and political that keep marriage the provenance and privilege of heterosexuals! This protecting the sanctity of hollywood / reality marriages.
And no, I'm not gay. Straight, married 20+ years . Think We should authorize civil marriages, and churches can decide whether to sanctify them on an individual basis.

Leave it to the Poles. I know it's a stereotype but they perpetuate it with their actions. Every year, the City of Philadelphia holds their Pulaski Day parade. The event honors General Casimir Pulaski, a Polish hero of the American Revolution. The defining moment of this yearly celebration took place a number of years ago, when the leader of the parade's half-mile-long procession marched down a dead-end street. True story...

Karen, could you please stay on topic? I don't know what relevance your comments have to the HETERO couple mentioned in the article...if anything, this article only confirms what most people know--whether a marriage works or not is largely based on compatibility NOT gender. I just have difficulty figuring out how you read homosexuality into this article at all. The article didn't provide any specifics about WHAT they were fighting about. I think some people are over-speculating.

Karen's comment: The old "two wrongs making a right" argument has never held water in the past and does not now. How does a couple of heterosexuals screwing it up justify homosexual behavior?

You missed the point. Please explain how gay marriage threatens any one elses marriage. How is that because a gay couple marries "voila" every one's marriages are unstable? This crazy heterosexual couple in the story undermines marriage much more than any gay couple that are committed to each other could with their batant disregard for the meaning of marriage.
Just for the record I am a straight 57 year old woman who will celebrate my 35th wedding anniversary to my straight husband this year and I have no fear that my marriage will suddenly fall apart if gays marry. I do, however, resent the heck out of the couple in the story who take marriage so lightly.

Maybe because many of the arguments against gay marriage were that it would ruin the sanctity of marriage. You can't ruin what has already been ruined.

Polish or not, at least most of us don't feel the need to put someone down just to make themselves feel better.

Well, they're Polish. Which doesn't fall under US law in any case. But sure, at this point the American government is way behind the curve on allowing homosexuals to have equal civil rights. Spain, Amsterdam, Canada and a number of other countries allow same gender unions the same legal privaleges as straight couples are granted.
I am gay, but do I need the right to legally bind myself to another person? I don't need it, but it would be nice to have the option. I can get the same protections as a married straight couple by going to a lawyer and toiling over three days of paperwork and then carrying copies of the stuff everywhere I go to prove it. Nice.

she was making it clear, why be rude??
i, as a christian(not obsessive), believe that its not right to date or marry the same gender. god made a man and a woman so they could create more...do you see 2 women or 2 men making babies??
but i also believe you should respect them no matter what, not accept their decision but accept them as a person. so i really dont believe in gay marriages

Jess,
I agree with you 100% that has been my thoughts exactly when everyone has been making a big thing about gays. Its nice to hear someone else thinks the same way.
